Nothing. What's to make them have theirs notarize diplomas, or have a notary at all?

Better serve alumni, provide necessary services a big institution like a university would need.

Sure. And if wishes were fishes, beggars would fry.

It may be a good idea, but universities run the spectrum of competence like any other institution. If it's not mandatory & imposed by an outside authority, someone won't do it.

My university does, as do others.

Why would a university provide any service beyond classes? You're just being silly.

This is getting tiring. People now are just asking the same questions over and over (Sandy, I'm looking at you).

This is SIMPLE.

he change of 'self verification of the original diploma' syste
- From 2010.9.1 when you get visa status invitation, apply for extension, apply for the permission to move into a new workplace and all kinds of sojourn related applications you will have to submit a copy of your diploma or graduation certificate or certificate of obtain degree which has a Apostille stamp or verification from the Korean Embassy in your own country or a verification from the Korean Council For University Education.
* The original rule for submitting the original diploma and sealed transcript system will be abolished.(from 2010.9.1)

Just copy your diploma, and get the copy notarized and apostilled! If you're in Korea, and have an employer waiting for you, they can go through KCUE for the authentication process.

Seriously, just follow these simple instructions. I know things were confusing at first, and there's still legitimate questions, but this has been done to death.

I think what some people were getting mixed up were the diploma discussions with the USA FBI criminal record checks. HOWEVER, I've heard the diploma with apositle for those already in Korea CANNOT get this done b/c the KCUE WILLNOT do it -- too busy.

So, those native English teachers in already in S. Korea do not have to worry about KCUE and diploma with apositle. The negative thing is that it's now probably too late to get transcripts -- Ha, Ha!!

Since KCUE has reneged on their "promise" to certify diplomas, we are now obligated to do this ourselves. I wrote to my registrar, who indicated that they require an original diploma for notarization. I suggested that I was disinclined to send my original diploma through the mail system. On a personal note, I am further disinclined to have a series of unnecessary stamps applied to my original diploma simply to satisfy the whims of Korean immigration. Do you detect a note of bitterness? a bit....

In any case, I have submitted a request for a duplicate diploma ($35.00) along with a request for notarization. Next, I will have to send the notarized diploma to the Sec. of State for an apostille. Another $10.00 excluding mailing fees.

Once I receive this now sacred document, I suspect that it should enter the shrine of documents, which should be hallowed in a database administerd by KIS.

Frankly, I am appalled by the entire process. I ponder the motivation. If the idea is to decimate the population of foreign teachers, they should just administer a proficiency test. lol

I'd love to hear from those of you who are chagrined by this process.

Last I heard, they were postponing the reqs for another year. Our DOS called his contact at kimmi and they confirmed. That means you have another year to get that done. Maybe try going to KCUE after the new year? Otherwise, just get your school to do it, you have a year Smile

Anyways, if it makes you feel any better, both my original degree and duplicate degree have stamps, signatures, been stapled, and rubber stamped

I also think it's ridiculous. Luck for me , I got my degree apostillised this Feb. I just hope kimmi doesn't say that the apostillisation is only good for three months. Like the transcripts. I simply don't understand the logic (is there any?!) It's not like my degree will be reneged after three months. On another note, when I got my visa earlier this year, I sent them transcripts from 2004, and they didn't even blink Smile So what they say might not hold true.

An fyi to put your mind at ease because I just went through this process and had the same hesitation...You send the original and a copy. The notary and apostille are actually attached to the copy. The original is returned to you unaltered.

Thank you so much for your inspiration. We also heard that there would be an extension applied for supplying these documents. I still have a sealed copy of my transcripts dated Jan. 2006. Of course, the evil nanobots will have eaten their way through the envelope and altered the contents. Hence, the requirement for "fresh" documentation.

Thank you for your breath of resuscitative and informative air. I like it.

For those of you who may be interested in a timeline, I offer the following: I sent my FBI request with fingerprints to their office on Sept. 9th or so. It was registered in their office on Sept. 14th. My parents received the report on Nov. 14th. Now, the report has to be sent to the Dept. of State for an apostille. DoS indicates that this will take 3 weeks.

Naive question: Can my dad open the envelope and peer at one of the reports? (I reqested two.) Or should he just send the entire envelope to the DoS?

For my diploma certification, I have had to request a copy ($35.00) from my university. They indicated that they will notarize the copy. I will then have to wait for this notarized copy and forward it to the Secretary of State in the state from which I received my degree. That will take another 12 weeks or so.

I would like to hear from anyone who has passed the audition.
