Almost all hip-hop made after 1996 should be outlawed. Just like any R&B from the past 20 years, especially the past 10.

Is anyone else annoyed by this R&B/ hip-hop/ pop fusion crap that's everywhere now? I call it chick-hop. It's f'ing horrible. The way they dress, act, the way the music sounds, what they stand for, it's all garbage.

Rap music used to be about kicking some ass. I liked to put on some good angry rap and hit the heavy bag. Rap these days makes you feel like there's a vagina opening up between your legs.

What the hell happened to heavy metal too?

God damn it, I hate R&B.

Lol. You DO realize that every generation of humans in history has felt this way about what's new? You got old and now you feel like this. One day my time will also come.

Granted, but I'm only 26.

There's nothing for guys anymore.

It's like there are two options- fruity chick-hop, or pretentious indie crap. No thanks, I'll make my own music then, with my ass crack.

That is not Korean Hip-Hop.

Korean hip-hop isn't exactly innovative or even that great, but I do like how its often still 'happy' music like Old School Hip-Hop used to be.

Calling K-pop or any kind of pop, "music," is stretching the idea of what music actually is. I think calling it "noise garbage" is a lot more fitting.

You guys seriously get no enjoyment out of songs like Gee, Madonna, or Nobody? There's something wrong with that.

When I finally rid myself of my musical elitism, I became a happier person.

I really don't get any enjoyment from those songs. Look if I could sing along Kpop with some Korean girl I'm dating, we'd all be happy as clams. I just can't. I hear MissA come on with that "you dont know me so shut up boy" line repeating over and over and get an instant headache.

I like Girls Generation (masturbating to them anyway, especially Jessica).

I like Secret for the same reason.

I like the new song by Wondergirls. 'Nobody' is a good song too, I can't believe that it didn't hit big in America when so much garbage does. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Kesha, T-Pain, Usher, Beyonce, Justin Beaver, Drake, Lil Wayne and all those other filth-mongers should be put on a garbage barge with a bunch of nuclear waste and put on a garbage dump island. Then they can sing their stupid-ass songs all they want, but nobody will be able to hear them.

I like that song by Son Danbi.

I don't like 2NE1 because they dress like morons and they try to talk in English like they're from the 'hood at the beginning of every song. Korean girls are not very gangsta, so don't even try. Still, I'd hit 'em.

I don't like any guy K-pop either, that stuff is just beyond fruity. I thought that G-Dragon was a girl when I saw his solo video.

I think it depends what your definition of music is and what your reasons are for listening to music. I figure there's a few different ways the class music; the music that you listen to for meaning and art and the music that you listen to in order to have fun, dance, or celebrate to. Of course, there are points where they intertwine as well.

You can't sing to Mozart at a Noraebang. You can sing Usher's OMG though. And you can boogie to both of them in the car.

Pop music certainly isn't the "BEST MUSIC EVAR", but it has it's purpose and some good catchy tunes.

Way, way, WAY TMI there bro Shocked Laughing
But yes, 2ne1 with their whole gangsta act is putrid and frankly embarrassing for me to watch Embarassed . Id love if they got dropped off in the hood in the States, and then see if they act/talk like that again. They act like fools and wish they'd stop. But thats YG Entertainment for ya. He copied the American rappers in the 1990's when he was singing and now he just gave birth to new, equally lame psuedo rappers/hood chicks in 2ne1 and Big Bang. Laughable, really.

Back home in High School I saw a couple share of fights between Korean girls and black girls who tried to act ghetto. Those ended real fast. It wasn't the Korean girls who lost.

Truth is there are a good many Koreans out there in the States who live/lived in the hood. More I bet than the Dave's crowd.

That being said, the whole ghetto talk stuff is way over the top. It's one thing if a dedicated hip-hop group does it, its another if some group whose previous hit song was "Sunny Love Day" or something like that does it. That just don't jive.

Then again whenever one of us foreigners from Suburbia Circle busts out a little street slang in our youtube video or blog or podcast its alright. But Koreans here? Never!

I require video as proof! Wink

Actually, I wouldn't deny it upon further thought. I used to make up lyrics to the 007 theme song. Mind you, they were very reptitive, but wonderfully hilarious in the eyes of a 12 year old.

There's more to kpop and korean music than what's in this thread.

I'll admit I'm not into the style of the 2NE1 videos but there's more to those girls than you would think. For example, between those girls they speak six languages. (English, French, Japanese, Korean, Filipino & I'm not sure of the other.)

Sandara Park / Dara lived in the Philippines. You can catch clips of her speaking Filipino (Tagalog) on youtube. It's very cute. Park Bom is the "pretty one". Her voice is actually nice, not that you can tell when they autotune it. CL is the rapper. She's the one who spent time in France apparently.

I agree about the styling and the videos. And I'm not into the YG or JYP artists so much. They were founded by hip hop artists so that accounts for all that hip hop in their groups. As for how they'd do in the US, they were #2 on the itunes US hip hop charts this week. Pretty good for a non-english album with no promo. They're working with will.i.am of the black eyed peas for their next album.

I like sment artists a little more, although they are considered an evil empire. As for SNSD (girls generation), give them another look. There are nine girls so there's a decent chance that you might like one. Two of those girls are korean americans so they speak English. Jessica is one of them. She's one of the littler ones, often blonde.

As for other kpop artists, there are some other interesting personalities. There are actually chinese, canadian, thai, american and other nationalities mixed in there. And some of the artists are really talented...some are not. Kpop is popular enough that they're now able to pull people from other countries. Obviously the majority are not though.

And then there's stuff that isn't kpop that (maybe) an average westerner might like.

For hip hop, there's a group of artists called The Movement. Drunken Tiger & Epik High are a few names.
There's korean indie music with groups like Nell, My Aunt Mary.
There's also ballads, soundtracks, etc.
I'll put up some links later.

I wonder if Korean will ever have an Eminem-type rapper that will lyrically attack other K-rappers with threats and insults.

You know how Eminem rips apart boy bands and girl bands? A Korean Eminem could rip into 2am/2pm, Big Bang, etc.

Could you imagine substituting some of the K-pop girls' names into Em's lines about Brittany Spears, Chritina Aguilera and Mariah Carey?

The guy would have to REALLY not care about netizens going after him.

Is 2ne1 meant to be 'to anyone' or 'twenty one' pronounced with an American/cockney London accent?
