Having received my first pay check, I am hoping to get a lap top.
I have been told it is very important to get one with an English version of windows on. How easy is this to do?
Does anyone know any good stores to get deals?

If you're looking for a good bargain, yongsan ex display models are the way to go.

A month ago I bought my Hp Pavillion dv6500 for 550,000 which has Intel core 2 duo, 2 gigs mem, 250g hd, 15.6" widescreen, built in webcam, altrec lansing speakers, hd audio, cd burner, built in wifi and Windows 7 ultimate in English (pirate, but works perfectly and lets me use all microsoft updates etc.) Got free case, extrnl mouse, all leads etc.

They did want to pawn me off with a 3 month warranty but I got them to give me 6 months. Pretty much any probs with laptop that may happen, if they haven't happened in 6 months I think I'm golden...

Basically Koreans don't like buying 2nd hand or anything with tiny scratches on it etc so the yongsan crew sell ex displays with slight blemishes (mine has a small scratch near the touch pad) at very reasonable prices....

I don't recommend buying a new computer here. My Samsung laptop has been a headache on many occasions. The computer screen had to be replaced when I was in America and there is only one service center in the whole country and I had to ship it there and be without a computer for 2 weeks. Then, shortly after my return to Korea, my hard drive went out. When this happens, Samsung's policy is to replace your English operating system with a Korean one.

I fully furnished my hbc 4 room apt for 300,000 including bed, matress, drawers, closet, tables and chairs, leather armchair and foot rest etc from the Samgakji used furniture warehouse. All mint, condition and new looking and not cheap quality

I basically fully furnished my apt and got my laptop and 42" ws hdtv for a total of 1.3 mil.

Yeah, I've never understood their concept of used goods. I've seen some really nice things discarded. Koreans seem to think that the more expensive something is, then the better it must be. Not a smart way to be. You just end up overpaying for things. No, thanks. I'll gladly take something used and in decent shape rather than giving a crapload of my money for something that is expensive because it is deemed "better."

I have no problem with used stuff (I ended up buying a bunch of used furniture for our house), but for a computer, not so much. Also I don't buy computers here in Korea. I usually go home and buy one and bring it back with me (without the box of course). Customs has no idea it's new and as long as I'm not reselling it, they don't care. I take my old one back and recycle it for charity at a place in Portland that resells them after they wipe out the hard drives. The one I am taking back next year is like 7 years old and worthless. I hand the one I have now to the wife and buy a new one, so I get a new one every 4 years.
