That really doesn't mean anything. As the article notes:

Quote:
Companies added 67,000 workers to their payrolls in August, the Labor Department said Sept. 3. Overall employment dropped by 54,000 for a second month, as the government let go census workers. The unemployment rate rose to 9.6 percent from 9.5 percent.

Silence with your crazy optimistic slant on things. It's all doom, man. Things are never going to get better. Ever. We are the most unlucky generation in the history of the universe, nobody anywhere ever has ever had things as hard as this.

A bit over exaggerating. The 30s and 40s weren't a cup of tea. If you came of age in 1929 it wasn't until the 50s that you saw any light at the end of the tunnel. The '60s and '70s weren't great either. Vietnam war, heroin and cocaine on the rise. Gas lines in the arly '70s from OPEC, Nixon resigning, staglfation of the '70s, Iran hostage crisis, I could go on.

Anyway, things are bad. The problem is systemic as well. The good times won't last as long, at least the next one because there are problems inherently within the U.S. that prevents any long term meaningful economic prosperity for the average person.

It has been hell man. As the average American walked 2 miles to get water from a muddy seep, residents of the rest of the world were enjoying riding around in ion propulsion cars and enjoying being waited on by their serving staff made up of the lucky Americans who had made it out of their poverty stricken land. The poor American could only dream about living in a place like France which had indoor plumbing in nearly every home.

Jobless rate will improve. Should see an uptick in employment early
next year. steady progress.

Black you left out a few things. Rebuilt WEstern Europe and ,went to the moon, answered the Soviet military buildup.

What system would you suggest to replace it. Perhaps Maoism ?

Anyone else going to enjoy all the midnight runs resuming again once the economy starts picking up?

When will that be, Clinton? In 50 years?...LOL. It gonna take a long, long time before the economy recovers.

Depends on who is in charge. I've been seeing some hints that the Obama people may allow asset deflation to run through (I posted links to this on the depression thread). If that happens, and the banks that inevitably fail from the asset deflation are reorganized, there could be a return to a more healthy situation in 2-3 years. I don't know if they have the balls to do it though. Housing probably has another 40% down to go.

Here's an interview with a banking analyst discussing the carnage ahead:

http://kingworldnews.com/kingworldnews/Broadcast/Entries/2010/9/24_Chris_Whalen.html

If they allow house prices to fall there will be a banking crisis inside of 2 years. How they deal with that crisis is incredibly important. They will know the crisis is coming and have time to prepare.

If they do not allow house prices to fall then the US will have decades of Japan like deflation in assets and inflation in cost of living. That's a depression. Jump ship.

Laughing

It will be amusing to see things reverse back to normal again.

At the moment korea is going nuts wallowing int their newfound employment popularity. The power has gone to their heads. Rejecting desperate Harvard-educated teachers for having a hair out of place, etc. The arrogance is reaching new highs in kimchiland.
