I like to think that I grew up in a typically dysfunctional American family and as a result, my holiday memories are mixed at best. Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor day typically meant that Dad had me and my three siblings working on some onerous chore like digging a ditch around the foundation of our house so that he could put in new drainage pipes. or trying to stay out of Dad's way as he fixed something. Sometimes, that something would be a car. I'd be shivering as I held a flashlight in the freezing cold and my poor brother would be underneath the car trying to twist on some bolt. Dad would be drinking coffee and studying, or swearing at the Chilton's manual. Great relief would be found when one could accompany Mom to the hardware store, or the auto parts warehouse. She would take her time and bring home donuts or some such.

So nowadays, I have a bit less to do, but it's getting done. Laundry, dishes, dusting, bedmaking, you name it.

No fun until the chores are done.
Happy Chuseok Holiday everyone!

We were a rather poor family, but managed to get by. We too had to improvise and I had to work as a kid more than just playing, but I know I gained many skills and values not having the silver spoon in a make believe perfect world. I too learned how to use a Chilton manual and tools early on. I too had to do car repair, handyman house projects, and other chores like mowing grass in my free time as a kid. I too used to think I came from a dysfunctional family, but now realize mine was a good situation and many others, including rich and poor families, were far more dysfunctional. When I was a kid, we had BBQ's and fish fries in the Summer and indoor meals like turkey or ham in the Winter. We weren't rich, but we partook in traditional activities and we also had our family feuds. I don't think any family is perfect like the Brady Bunch and they all have problems, but it's all good if you have memories of good times together on holidays and other events like camping, fishing, and picnicking.

What am I getting done?

It's sure not the cleaning that needs to be done. It's all fishyfied over at my place, everything needs a good wash down with bleach, and my laundry needs done. I've been out bass fishing with Koreans all day yesterday and today. I dressed 18 fish last night, 10 tonight, and have 9 more to go of which are swimming around in my kitchen sink as I take a break from my rather fishy situation here. My hands hurt from being poked by fins many times in catching and dressing them, but oh how much of a delight it is to have a piece of home in perfect Fall weather. The weather was gorgeously beautiful today with a pink and lavender sky at sunset and a rising bold white full moon with bass busily doing acrobats right and left. A large tree at the edge of the lake weighted down with about 200 huge white cranes below a sky filled with puffy clouds glowing pink and lavenders and a brilliant white full moon with bass dancing into my hands every minute just made my day.

What am I getting done? Catching a mess of big mouth billy bass.

The American big mouth bass were imported by tackle shops and stocked in lakes 10 to 20 years ago so Koreans could be world class bass master anglers. Man these guys take it to extremes and can out fish me. The casting a rubber worm in the water sport is serious business to some here during their off time. Talk about perfectionists with their rubber worm riggings and casting strategy. I declined the offer to put on a rubber full body wet suit to go kayaking the lake. LOL. Man, talk about over gearing up for the serious business of being expert professional outdoorsmen. It's an interesting experience into another culture to make some Korean friends and go with them in their car. It takes a while to meet someone, but when you do, you get introduced to their friends and siblings and it all takes off from there.

In day 5 of the Master Cleanse diet, have been doing stretching in the morning and doing 2 hour walks in the day. I bought W25,000 worth of lemons and 3 6-pack bottles of water. I am doing the senna tea in the evening and the salt water thing in the morning. Also doing the lemon juice/maple syrup/cayenne thing during the day. Haven't eaten a bite since Sunday. Have gone down one pants waist size since then, tho.

Am steadily going thru it. Halfway there, I feel good but find myself sleeping a lot. Thank God I have this week to do most of it!!!! I am also getting out my winter clothes and putting away all my summer stuff. Everything smells like mold because of the damn wet summer!

We had our dog flown in from Canada Razz we've been getting him adjusted, going on lots of walks and honestly just doing nothing. Oh wait, we have been working our way through the entire series of Private Practice. At first I was a little bummed out that I had 6 days off in a row and no plans to leave the country (No ARC yet, + no money) but it has been nice.
