I am about to leave in a week and am trying to get myself prepared.
I would like to hear some of the stories of other teachers who have gone to teach ESL.

What was your first week in South Korea like?

Wow....drunk. I'm sure you must make a great teacher.....

Stressful and exhausting. Culture shocked, jet lagged, and never having set foot in a classroom as a teacher was tough on me. Sink or swim man. Just do your best. Smile a lot at everyone. Listen to the advice of your coteachers and director (no matter how ridiculous it sounds, it will go a long way in developing a positive relationship between you). Don't worry too much about the lessons in the first week. Focus on getting to know your students, setting up a class management system and play a couple of ice breaker games.

My first week was spent boozing and throwing bleach on nasty black ModEdit in my apartment.

Haha, but you're not supposed to scare the newbies too much.

That seems a bit ironic.

How is that ironic? You might want to learn the definition of the word.

One guy claims to have gotten drunk his entire first week and every week after. I claim that teaching was hard at first, but if you work hard, seek advice and develop positive relationships with the students and your coworkers you will get better and it will get easier.

Explain the irony please....

You commenting on someone else being a teacher in their first week while admitting that you weren't either.

I was commenting on his continuing abuse of alcohol while being a teacher. Usually when you quote someone, you should take the entirety of their sentence in context...not just whatever phrase suits you to try to make a lame internet jab at someone.

I find it ironic how you can judge someone's first week of teaching while admitting that you had not a single clue of what you were doing during your first week. He didn't say he was drunk while teaching, did he?

Wow. Maybe you need a beer, mate. Might help.

Yes, I will judge someone for abusing alcohol on a daily basis while being responsible for educating children in a classroom. Call me crazy....
