|
|
Hi,
I'm trying to take cash out of my TD Canada Trust bank account at an atm that has the "plus" symbol and I keep getting a 702 error. Does anyone know what this is or has had this happen to them? I'm broke. Going to end up begging duk bo chi from my students. Help..... |

try a whole crap of machines.
I find the ones IN Seoul are more likely to be foreign friendly. The ones on the outter suburbs are often ot compatibale (even if they have the symbol). |

| The symbols on the machines and the cards don't mean much. You'll have better luck with subway station machines, and the ones in Ministops and other convenience stores. Also give the ones in post offices a try. |

A lot of the machines that say HANET actually work for my RBC card...also, any old crappy looking machines where you have to swipe the card and there are big grey buttons are usually a safe bet. If all else fails, the machine in the Itaewon subway station works for sure.
Good luck. |

Try the bank machines in the subway systems (depending on which city you are in).
Other, somewhat reliable, machines can be found in the family mart chain of stores. |

| Thanks for your advice. Sounds like I might have to do a road trip to Seoul this weekend. Has anyone ever had a 702 error on a machine before? |

My scotiabank card worked with that machine, also with another in a bank down the road (forget where exactly, but it was on the same side of the street as the KFC).
Best of luck! |

There is no way you should have to come to Seoul from Kunsan for a bank machine!
Worse case scenerio, ask to use the ones on base there...
Try all the banks first.. that's a long trip just to use a bank machine! |

| Ouch Plastic B, that hurts! We have no Tim Horton's or Subway here. We're all getting quite skinny! |

Okay, outside of Seoul, I've had the best luck with ATMs that say "Nice Cashing" on a red sign. They usually have them at E-mart, Carrefour and places like that as well as at some convenience stores.
Worst case scenario- either ask your school for an advance, or ask parents to wire you some money.
Good luck! |

| Definitely don't come to Seoul just for an ATM. You ought to be able to get an advance off your credit card in any bank. Just find someone to help you with the language bit. |

The Hanet machines should work. Look for a sign on the machine that lists foreign cards that are accepted.
If you see the 4+, Interact or VISA symbol then that machine should work. These machines are a tiny bit more difficult to find but they are definately in the subway stations in Seoul. If you've got a Cirrus card then you'll likely have an easier time of finding a machine that will accept your card.
Good luck. |

I use CIBC and over three years being here, I haven't been able to use my card first. Don't listen to your bank at home, they are all pencil pushing idiots. If they say it works, never trust with absolution. I have travelled all over the world and the best way to do it anywhere is to get a pin number put on your visa so that you can get advances on it. Unfortunately for you, I think that has to be done IN-BRANC, meaning in Canada. If you are here already... you may be screwed.
If you see Global service, it may mean nothing at all... not a sure-fire way of getting a machine that can serve your needs. I have found that CHB (Chohung Bank) always has an english machine available. Try also Kookmin, I was there with my wife recently and saw that they have English machines there too (I live in rural Korea so if it is here, then it is probably almost anywhere!).
Good luck! |
