I'll go back to Canada soon...but I have gotten used to the fact that my name hasnt been in the system for two years and I don't want it to be again. In fact, my name isn't in this system either. I'm a happy vagabond wandering the streets of Seoul like Rumple Foreskin (or was it Stillskin?) making more money and saving more money then I could back home while doing a hell of a lot less. In Canada...to make over 40 bucks an hour I'd have to be a lawyer....and I'd pay taxes. But....by the same token...I'd have car, a dental plan, respect from my fellow citizens, cocktails after work, cleaner air.....people who spoke English.....etc. etc. etc. etc.
Korea is a nice break from reality for a year or so....BUT I'm starting to crave responsibility AND accountability....and by that I mean from other people. Koreans, generally, are not very accountable, or organized, or logical. It's laughable in fact. I'm amazed anything gets done here. |

Please show me where I've demonstrated a pathological hatred for Canada. I'm not anti-Canada. I'm against the motherland of my wife and two children being referred to as Krapea. |

Amen, brother. I thought I was the only one who took offense to Krapea.
To the original poster, have fun in Toronto. Sounds like the two of you deserve each other. |

Then I get crap from the Latin American community because apparently I'm not in touch with my roots (???). I can't win. I guess my point is, try to find the place where you are happiest and live there. There are some things I hate about living in Korea, but overall, I'm content here. I like my job and my apartment (not a one room, tg). There are things I hate about living in the US too, and some things I miss. But I am not ready to go back, thank you. |
Canadians rarely take the tests they apply to Americans to determine Americans are stupid and rude and apply them to themselves. In reality Canadians are a bit less stupid than Americans. They're a bit less rude than Americans. But on the world stage, Canadians rarely have anything to be proud of. Something like only 40% of Americans could locate the pacific ocean on a map. Only 50% of Canadians could accomplish the same task. If every other Canadian can't find the pacific ocean on a map, we're not exactly the brain trust for the world.
I'm sure more than one American ESL teacher who has encountered a Canadian in a bar has come to believe the Canadian reputation for politeness is highly highly over rated. |

Wow! "In reality!" Hmmm...Actually something like 50% of Americans score higher on intelligence tests than 50% of Canadians.
How are you going to prove Canadians are less rude? Well, you can't but I'll concede that point just 'cause I'm a nice guy and I like to make people feel good about themselves. |

Not sure I understand. Who was rude? You for blocking traffic or her for yelling?

I'm a southerner more than a westerner you could say, an olde world ex colonial. When i first arrived in England from Zimbabwe I was utterly amazed at the degeneracy I saw in England. I had been under the impression that England was a place of politeness, the consummate well dressed and well educated gentleman.
Nothing could be further from the truth. I was actually better at English than my classmates, smarter dressed, better behaved etc etc. While I studied, my classmates sniffed glue, fought, and reduced the teachers to tears, apart from dressing like slobs. I also knew virtually every ocean, capital and flag of every country on the map: they couldn't have placed Paris on a map.
western civilisation is a rapidly degenerating fallacy. Although I complain, korea is relatively "well behaved" and crime free. And its on the up, too. |

A friend moved to London and reports that Londoners are extremely cranky. I does come with living in a big city, notably when the weather turns. Canadians in Toronto are a bunch of rude prycks in winter time. |

While I'm sure you must be dazzling your family and friends with your razor-shap comeback lines, surely it must be time to put your jammies on, say nighty-night to Mom and Dad and head off to bed? |

I took the reference to Krapea as a joke...a pretty good use on words that I never thought of.
I would also take any reference to Canada/Toronto that demeans them, as a joke.
I gathered from the OP that he was being a bit sarcastic on the way people always say "back home is better"....perhaps my interuptation wasn't the same as yours. |

To be honest, I took it as a joke too (albeit a lame and mildly offensive one) so I responded with an even lamer joke. And for that I was called a pathological Canada hater. Hell, I'd be hard pressed to even find Canada on a map (I am American you know) let alone care enough to hate it. |
