i'm going to thailand (seoul-bangkok-samui) for late december - early january.

the only prices i can find are in the 1,000,000 won range - why is it so expensive?
i went last year at the same time and it was 300,000 won cheaper - is 1million the new 700thousand???

what sites/agents do you use to get you the best price?
is it worth it to just get a fight to bangkok and find a way to the islands from there??? i only have about 8 days.

thanks.

What's the difference in price between flying directly to the islands and flying into Bangkok? Both times I've gone (8-9 days for each trip), I flew into Bangkok and then took an overnight train down to Surat Thani. I think the second-class sleeper seat and meal cost ~1000 baht.

If you booked Korean Air, that would explain the price.

I wouldn't pay it. Keep trying to get a better price. Call many agents. Get put on many waiting lists.

Ask around through travel agents in Seoul. I flew Thai Airways to Bangkok from Incheon including a round trip flight from Bangkok to Yangon, Myanmar for 860,000 last month total, but it would had cost me US $1100 for the Bangkok flight and another $333 for Yangon had I not used a travel agent. Both the American sites and airline sites offered high fares, but travel agents can get you better fares and even have many morning and night itineraries you can't find on your own making for less waiting around.

Book AirAsia from Seoul to KL. KL to Thailand. Last time I checked, one way to KL is 255,000 won. To Phuket, another 60,000 won.

So 315,000 to Phuket? And 630,000 round trip? Hardly a deal.

Depending on how long your vacation is, there are many flight possibilities.

We are spending 5 weeks on Koh Samui. We bought tickets on Cebu Pacific. Incheon to Manila then to Bangkok. For a RT ticket, we spent 750.000KRW total (two tickets plus infant). We'll stay in Bangkok for a few days and then fly with Air Asia from Bangkok to Surat Thani and then take the ferry to Koh Samui. I think that will cost an additional 100.000 KRW total. Air Asia is dirt cheap.

It might not be the best flight, but the money we saved on airline tickets got us a really nice house with a pool for 5 weeks.

Air Asia is a good ticket too. You could fly from Incheon to Kula Lumpur. Change airports (it's cheap and about 90 minutes) and take Fireflyz airlines (sorry if the spelling is off). They fly directly to Samui from Kuala Lumpur. You could avoid Bangkok all together.
