Just got offered a job with ELC Ulsan, does anyone have any experience with them? What are they like to work for? Any feedback would be appreciated!

Samsan ELC school in Ulsan? I haven't worked for them but I was offered a contract with them. Read it carefully. I wouldn't work for a school that decides for me when I can take vacation days, as they are likely to give out one day at a time.....and that would totally suck if you plan on traveling outside korea!!

Was it wha-am ELC? I just got offered a job today suddenly from that school, if it's the same school then it would explain a lot!

Depends what ELC in Ulsan it is, there are a few.

I knew all of the ELC teachers in Samsandong over two years of living in Samsandong.

Only one westerner re-signed with them in those two years.

They do pay on time, but teachers both korean/western are treated badly. Also all of the Korean top teachers left over those two years

I might be different now... but i'd stay away. The Samsangdong Director is certainly dodgy

Each ELC has different management, so really you need to talk to recentley left western teachers, if thats posible. Current ones might not want to rock the boat if they're leaving soon. Because they'll be waiting on severance pay, planes flights etc.

Yes amnsg2, it was Wha-AM ELC. Without even an interview they were offering a job, seems they need someone kind of urgently and are offering the job to anyone who can get there by October 15th. I hadn't even seen the contract or said I'd take the job and they were telling me to send all my documents on.

Did you talk to anyone at the school? I really don't think I'll take the job, no interview, almost no information about the school and I don't like the contract.

I have tried to research it online and I did find information about the Samsandong one, seems it not a good place to work. Thanks for the replies!

Yeah, it was exactly what happened to me! I'm going to email the agent and say that since I haven't had any contact with them I'm not sure what my answer is. I think that they're just trying to get a anyone to fill the job now.

The contract seemed a bit dodgy to me as well, on the contract it looks like we have no vacation days, just public holidays so I was only going to accept if I could get at least 10 days. They list tax but they are quite vague about deductions made from accommodation, as though they have loads of different apartments.

Now I know that it was a 'hey everyone, send all your documents to this school so they can choose' I'm not sure I should even try to discuss those terms.

Yeah I just e-mailed my recruiter now to tell him I won't be taking the job. The fact that they've asked us both to send on our documents is definitely iffy! I wonder how many others have been offered the same job. Are you dealing with Billy by any chance?

The contract holiday clause is terrible - The instructor will be given all lunar calendar red days as holidays. Extra vacation days are not acceptable unless authorized by the institute. No-one would agree to that!

Oh well, back to the search!

Hmmmm. Which recruiter did you guys use? I was recently offered something similar. I don't have all the details (still waiting for a contract) but it sounds similar at least. If you don't want to say the name of the recruiter on the forum, can you PM me. I'd like to know if it's the same school and recruiter, offering the job to multiple people - particularly if I'm one of those people.

You guys pass?

Give it to me then-I need a job ASAP.

As long as they pay and pay on time,it's fine.

cert: you're welcome to apply for it and I could pass on the details. The problem isn't that we don't want the job it's that we don't want to send our documents away if it's not an actual job offer. They want our visa documents so they can pick and choose, if you want to take that risk go for it. A notaries signature costs me 70 so I will pass on this occasion.

troglodyte: I can't pm you, but *cough* et *cough cough* korea Smile

Yeah, I'm dealing with Billy too! I was kind of upset because he's been setting up interviews for ages but then I realised that they ALL fell through. I think I'll concentrate on different agencies, they all have different methods and some of them are interesting Smile

This situation puts me off working with him too, what would have happened if we'd both sent our documents. I don't like the way he has dealt with this. It was the first job that he had set up for me and apparently I'd got it.

cert43 if you want I can PM you the recruiter's name and e-mail and you can get in touch with him.

Troglodyte PM sent

To be fair to him, someone somewhere is obviously applying pressure. But I would have thought it would be easier to fill the position by making the contract more appealing rather than sending a job offer to every teacher available and hoping someone will blindly accept.

Let him set up interviews for you still- they tend to never be mentioned again after no one calls but there is a chance the school that does call will be offering a nice job. But maybe pm me and possibly troglodyte first to see if we got the same nice job!
