Hang out for who? That place is a cess pool (day and night).

Ask 10 Magazine. Seriously. Besides, who "hangs out" in Insadong?

that is a rather "Seoulcentric" list. What about Tongdosa or Kyungju in general?

A cess pool with the best food in the country.

10 is the neighborhood just north of Insadong, near the Blue House. Lots of boutique shops and coffee shops.

9 is a street near Sinsa station with a bunch of expensive coffee shops and restaurants. It's special because it's lined with trees.

8 is the neighborhood next to Apgujeong. Again, expensive restaurants and coffee shops.

These are basically all places that you'll only know about if you have had a Korean girlfriend.

That's a weird assumption. Samcheongdong is one of my favorite places here and I've never had a Korean girlfriend. It has a cool relaxing vibe to it. Garosu-gil is lined with trees, but they were all trimmed or cut or something because there was absolutely nothing special about that street.

What a list! The amount of effort that must have went into that.

It's like saying the top 2 places in Seoul to meet other foreigners are Itaewon and Hongdae.

How about a list of places to hang out that are not as mainstream?

Koreans in Korea are more collectivist, think Haeundae is the best beach in Korea because it's the most crowded.

I gotta big up Itaewon.

Best place to hang out at a weekend, especially if solo.

Grab a coffee, browse a bookstore (we all know which one) get a lunch consisting of a world cuisine of your choice, go to a bar where you can play pool or darts. If so inclined go to a trans, gay bar or catch a trans caberet show. Laughing Get a sauna or some other helth / beauty / pampering treatment. Stock up on some deli foods to take back home and enjoy during the week after work. And just generally feel that sense of being somewhere interesting and a bit diverse like I used to get in London's Chinatown or Soho.

Just a shame they closed down Hollywood Basement (now SPY) and Limelight (now HRC.)

There used to be an okay nightclub / bar with dancefloor scene for dancing and picking up members off the o/s.

Now there's just Helios (overcrowded and no character,) SPY - can you say Euro Model Metro Poseur? Oh and the loft I guess has became that kind of dancing bar place but it's a bit small and kinda lame... B1 has become all metro sexual / fashiony and poseury. Ick

This is the result of a poll. How will you do a "not as mainstream" poll?
Will the question be: "What is a place that neither you nor your friends
hang out at very much?"

Also, yes, this poll is probably Seoulcentric. I don't know if "10 Magazine"
is even available in the 'equatorial' regions of the deep south of South Korea.

I think the new poll is: "What is your favorite pub?" If you think your
watering hole down south can make the list, then reply.

How about a Top-10 places not in Seoul to hang out list?

Good point. it's not the first or last time that the city is conflated with the nation. It's really a top-10 in Seoul list with Haeundae added simply because Seoulites ktx it down there.

Blame it on laziness. None of these kinds of lists ever include places in Suwon, Anyang, Ilsan, or anywhere else because the "critics" live in Seoul and are too lazy to actually venture outside of the city limits.

Laziness. They could have read that list from a tourist guide.

Thank you for answering my previous question about who hangs out in Insadong. Some of these are places Korean gf's and wives drag their bf's and hubbies for shopping. Are there even any bars in Insadong?
