Yes, if you've been considering going out of your way to get one (see Subject line) more power to you.

Heads-up to new iPhone owners:

I really am seriously suspicious of whether my iPhone killed, no MURDERED my iPod. I had the two in the same pocket and got a call on the subway. Suddenly the iPod 160G Classic stopped and can't read any of the music or anything else. Yet, when I go to settings it says that the 62.4G in use are still there intact.

I have a new computer (lost the other), so I'm seriously NOT going to reset to factory settings and set it up with the new machine=loss of about 4,900 songs (and yes, I have listened to each--once at least; I'm a student with no life^^).

I was also thinking that maybe my relatively older Classic is just a bit jealous and trying to frame my new baby, but I honestly doubt it; the Classics knows she's loved more than da new chick. Sounds more like a case of baby shaking syndrome.

Anyways, just giving the heads up on a potential killer. Any suggestions? (BTW: I'm pretty sure it's not related to the iTunes 10 upgrade). Right now, I'm sorta waiting for the battery to run out and hope this Classic tramp cooperates. Wink

Gosh, I just realized how perverse all this sick personification must sound. Keke...bleeding...Tech Geek or just iP-idiality? I'm definitely not a techy.

So just copy the music to your hard drive and then reset it and put them back. Doesn't sound too difficult.

Also, don't ever, ever say "keke"

Thought it was clear...the music doesn't show up anywhere. And when I put the pod into the computer it prompts me to change it to factory setting. As a hard drive, the music is nowhere to be found.

I thought that from what I wrote it would be apparent that you weren't dealing with a idiot who didn't know how to "find" the tunes.-_-They're in there but because iTunes won't recognize the iPod properly since the subway incident, and the music won't come up. In the settings area on the pod the GBs all come up as type: "Other." (i.e. no Videos, Music,...)

Again: as a hard drive on the computer there's no files to "save"

But thanks for your help.

Not sure of how the "keke" comment will help my iPod. Is it some sorta superstitious internet babble that may work its way into the fate of my pod?

Thanks

It's too late. You kinda have to accept this, first and foremost.

To prevent this in the future, you have the option of keeping all of your music backed up on an external HD or separate computer. Anything you want to keep forever, make two copies then burn a 3rd onto a DVD or likewise. This is a modern fact of life, HD's fail. New and old, all the time.

Now, how you replace those songs in this day & age... that's totally up to you, but 4,900 doesn't sound... too difficult. I've been there, it hurts, but if you want those songs you'll find a way.

COPY EVERYTHING. What difference would it make if your iPhone killed your iPod, or you dropped your iPod in the toilet at the bar? Same problem, same vulnerability.

Wish you luck in the future! Smile

Thanks n8schac,

I also firmly believe in backing up, so I have a 1TB Time Machine now. Unfortunately, I lost the computer before the Time Machine. Sad

But seriously, thank you so much for the advice. I also think you're right. The pod is dead.

I really do suspect the iPhone had a tissy fit and killed the pod.
