|
|
Hello, is there anybody out there that is currently living in Namyangju that can give me a heads up on what it is like? I just got offered a job there and am combing through the contract now, and may be taking the offer. Before I accept anything I want to make sure that this place is livable, there is hardly anything on the internet on Namyangju!
*What kind of daytime/weekend activities are there to do?
*Are there many bar hangouts? And what are they like?
*How is the foreign population in Namyangju?
*How is the relationship between Koreans and us foreigners?
*Is it easy to get to Seoul to spice up a weekend? I hear they are putting in a subway system in December.
Thanks for any help!!! |

I don't know much about the day to day stuff, but it's close to Seoul and very close to some beautiful scenery. I recommend buying a scooter if you choose to live out there and make some weekend drives, especially in fall. From my trip out there I thought it looked too small and boring for an entire year, but that's just me, I didnt' spend more than a few hours in the actual town. |

Perhaps too small in terms of a centralized, developed area, but Namyangju occupies a lot of land. They're building big out there in preparation for the impending subway, but your best bet for anything interesting nearby is going to be Guri. |

That sounds great, how much of a pain is it to get a license out there? I'd assume a scooter might cost a bit but definitely seems like a worthwhile splurge.
If anyone has any information on night life too (if there is any) that would be greatly appreciated!! |

A used scooter will only set you back a couple hundred
In terms of nightlife, everyone I've met who lived in Namyangju has said the closest thing to reasonable nightlife is in Guri, like I said in my first post. You'd better hope you're closer to Guri, and in turn Seoul, not stuck out toward Pocheon, Yangpyeong, or even the outskirts of Uijeongbu out by the farms. You'll be in a tough spot if you're way out in one of the corners. |

Yangpyeong isn't too bad actually. There actually is a pretty big foreigner group that gathers in Yangpyeong every Friday. However, if you are looking for clubs, then yes, Yangpyeng is not the place to hang out. Ever since they put in the subway line, life has become much better for us country folk. |
