There is another native speaker at my school. She is from Canada.
She's on an E2 visa and wants to transfer from GEPIK to a hagwon or SMOE after her 2011 contract.
She wants to know how she can stay in Korea and do a criminal record check. How does she do this? |

If it doesn't come directly from a recognized police service it won't be accepted by the Canadian embassy for the affidavit of authenticity and won't be accepted by the Korean consulate in Canada for certification.
She has the time, order it directly from the RCMP. Problem goes away.

This is where I'm hearing conflicting stories. Under the new regulations, I am being told that the Criminal Background Check has to come through RCMP Ottawa now. That provincial RCMP checks are not acceptable. Can anyone confirm this? The provincial does not require fingerprints, well at least it didn't before. But I believe the Ottawa check requires finger prints. |

I also heard one poster here say that the Winnipeg one was not able to be apostilled in Korea. Thus how in the world do you order one online?
Clearly one needs to first phone immigration to see what the new regulations are. Secondly, phone a vast number of RCMP branches until you get one that will do a check remotely. |

Last time I was just able to fax a letter with my details requesting a CBC to the Mission, B.C. branch. I also included a copy of passport and birth certificate. The letter also stated that my sister would pick up the CBC. All went well, but I wonder if the same can be done again. Seems kinda pointless since I will be submitting the exact same document and Ive been in Korea since the first time I submitted it.
But I'm being told now its got to be the Ottawa branch that includes fingerprints and takes about 4 months. I wish some one could clarify this for me. |

If Korean immi was requesting a Korean police background check it'd make sense since I've actually been living in Korea, but resubmitting a CBC doesn't. Worse, Korean immi hasn't given clear guidelines on what they require - RCMP, CPIC etc. Whoever drafted these new hoops to jump through clearly pulled these new guidelines out of their ass.
Here's a link for the RCMP record check:

Does anyone know if they can do fingerprints at the Canadian embassy in Seoul? Or how to request this at a Korean police station so it's acceptable for the RCMP? |

So I'm thinking of renewing my contract when it expires in Feb. 2011. I got a notice today (sent by SMOE) saying if you intend to renew your contract in 2011, you will need to submit a CRC by January 1, 2011. Did anyone else get this notice. I'm not reading this wrong, am I?
The RCMP website says it can take up to 120 days to process, but I also heard the check can't be more than 3 months old. So, I'm wondering if I should apply now?! Is anyone else in the same situation? |

You can go back to Canada, do the digital fingerprint scan at a private company, and the RCMP will process it in 3 days, and have it in the mail. |
