Hi,
Tried the search function but wouldn't operate.

Our son was born here in Korea. WE have sorted his US passport/social security stuff and now have to get his Korean Visa within 30 days. Does anyone know exactly what we need to bring to register him to my wife's visa, she will "sponsor" him and my son and I will go on her visa as I will be looking after him.

We saw a list of things needed on the US embassy website, but want more specific info.

If anyone could provide a link to a Korean immigration site in English regarding this topic that would be great.

THanks!

I think this is the info you want

F3 dependant family.

Though at quick glance I'm not sure this is helpful. Your best bet might be to just call the local immigration office. Given the general nature of immigration offices (anywhere) I'm sure there is a ridiculous amount of paperwork involved.

Hard to give specific answers without knowing your visa classes.

Typically the child will be registered under the father (unless the father is F3).

You will need the baby's birth certificate (from the hospital), proof of the foreign passport application and birth registration (receipts) in his home country (US). You will also need 2-4 passport type photos as well.

Even if you do NOT have his passport yet you ARE required to register the baby before the 30 days are up. Proof of the application are adequate for registration and you will need to go back to get his F3 in his passport (and the re-entry permit if you want one).

Registration is 60k won, ARC is 10k won and the re-entry permit is 50k won.

Failing to register within the 30 day time frame WILL get you a fine of 100k per month for each month (or part thereof) that you are late.

hi,
thanks for your responses.

my wife and I are both here on E-2 visas. she is from NZ and I am from the US. our son will be a dependent on her visa because i will be quitting and becoming a dependent myself bc her job provides our housing so i will look after him.

our son has his US passport already, did that 1st thing.

can we just go to immigration in Omokgyo or wherever? we don't have to do that foreign korean embassy stuff do we?

what about:

A certificate of incumbency of Inviting parties and a certificate of tax payment
Application for the visa can be made to the embassy or the consulate of the Republic of Korea after the applicants get a certificate of recognition of visa issuance or certification No. of visa issuance

Is this just a letter from her employer and the companies tax ID?

thanks!

She doesn't need any of the above since she is already here (not applying for an entry visa from a consulate). She is just making a change in status of sojourn (adding F3) to her passport.

You need to prove that you (her mother as the sponsor) is here legally (ARC), has a valid passport, can support a dependent (certificate of employment may be requested) and a family relationship (birth certificate). The baby needs a passport to get the F3 and will need to register for an ARC.

A certificate of employment from your wife's employer may be requested (to prove she is still working and able to "support a dependent") but it wasn't required when we went to register our daughter.
