|
|
I arrived August 10th. I used my Original degree for my paperwork. My school tried to get my Alien card 2 weeks ago and said it cant be done to the new rule change. They said they will try again in a month. I only have 6 weeks left in my 90 period. My school said immigration is backed up.
Is anybody in the same boat as me?
What happens if I go past the 90 days without ARC?
My school said they can get the 90 days extended. I'm kinda stressed and then I'm told not to worry about it.
Definitely not putting up with this when renewal hits next August, no Federal check B.S. for me. It's too bad cause I like it here and my job is good too. |

Get a letter from your school or better still immigration, saying that they are aloud to extend the period. Take a Korean with you. At least then you can show the letter when you get into trouble, if they hold you responsible. |

Somebody is not being honest with you about getting your ARC
(you need your medical, passport, application form, 10k won and a bit of paperwork from your employer)
and
you CANNOT extend beyond your 90 days before you get registered.
If you go past your 90 days your will be in violation of immigration law and subject to all sorts of nastiness (including fines, black mark in your file (means consular interviews in your home country for EVERY visa change), and worst case detention or deportation (hardly ever happens and not for a short delay in registration).

One of the teachers at my school is dealing with the same thing, she has to wait for the KCUE to verify her degree (about a month) before she can get her ARC. |

Do you know what KCUE is?
My degree is sitting right here on my desk so I hope they don't need it.
Should I call immigration and see what the problem is? I feel that I should take charge of the situation because I'm the one who will get in trouble.
Anger is building. |

Wow. I've been here a month, and I got my card two weeks ago. That sounds a bit unnerving that you're having to wait. I thought that the new rules started on Sept. 1 but would affect you if you were trying for another visa. |

Do you actually have an E2 visa in your passport? If you do, then you can get your ARC.
Did you get your medical check?
Take that, and your other documents (see above) and cash (30k won) and go to Immi and get it. |

Go to immigration yourself. It's very easy and take maximum 2 weeks.
Maybe your school is jerking your around because they have redecided that they don't actually want you but they are looking for a way to get rid of you with minimal cost to themselves and by saving face. |

This is not true. You could get your E2 prior to September 1st under the old rules but you still need to follow the new rules in order to get an ARC. |

That's a negative.
I was issued my visa issuance number in mid August, had the visa in my passport in hand by August 27th, arrived in Korea on August 31st and was at Immigration in Seoul on September 8th. No problems with getting the ARC.
Ttompatz is right. You've been to the hospital and had your checkup, you take that document from the hospital (which has your photo pressed onto the paper with a seal) along with your passport and a paper from your school to immigration. At immigration, you fill out the application (name, address, photo) and pay 10k for the little stamp. Turn it in, ten days later you have your ARC.
The visa rules and visa changes and all that is irrelevant. All the ARC is is an Alien REGISTRATION Card. It says that the authorities know where you are. You have registered. You are here legally.
SO, you have the E2 in your passport? You have your medical check? That is all you need to register (along with your fee and the note from your boss). |

I have my passed medical check. My E2 visa is secured in my passport.
My school doesn't want to get rid of me, I'm very sure of that.
The only thing I can gather is that the guy in charge of the process doesn't know what's going on, OR they get to slip out of signing me up for medical and pension right away.
I guessing incompetence.
However, fellow poster northway says he has a fellow teacher dealing with the same problem.
nathanrutledge, did you use an apostilled copy of your degree, or the original? |

I've always used an apostilled copy of my degree. Even though I could replace my original, I still feel more comfortable with it at my parents house, locked away. That aside, the ARC card has nothing to do with the visa. It has to do with registering yourself with the government, letting them know where you are living and that you are, in fact, here legally. I'm waving the BS flag that it has to do with the change in visa regulations. I don't buy that at all. |

Why do you even need to take your diploma copy to immigration? They already have one from when your school applied for the visa issuance number. You don't need to give them another one when you apply for the ARC.
Go do it yourself. You're running out of time and it seems that your school is incompetent or reluctant to do it. |

Who knows more about Korean immigration and visa rules
A) Korean co-teacher
B) Hagwon Owner
C) Korean and based in Korea Recruiter
D) ESL Teacher who has been in Korea for 6 months
E) Ttompatz
The answer is D if E is not around.
Sounds like your school is not clear on procedure or as somebody says is jerking your around whether it is malicious or not? Hmm.
Go and try and do it yourself! |

I arrived back around the 20th of August and I'm getting my card in a couple of weeks. They needed to get my degree apostilled. I don't think your school is screwing you around. I'm not really concerned about the whole thing as it seems to be sorting itself out. No point stressing - but that's just me. |
