I love the "electric" tennis racquets they've designed for killing mosquitoes. |

I like the Samgyupsal places with the makeshift tables made from Oil drums/garbage bin with the strange ducking that gives it a retro Dr. Who look.
I like the fish markets with the massive varities of different kinds of Sashimi.
I think the hospitality is second to none.
I like the fact that you can go to three different places in one night and you won't break the bank.
I like the easy and cheap transportation.
I like all those Makoli/ Korean pancake places in the mountanious
A good friend in Korea will help you out of a difficult situation with just a phone call. |

--I'm totally with Steelrails on the lack of frequent, gun-and/or-drug related, violent crime. Just not having guns is nice. Nice nt to go into 7-11 and have to slip your money under 2 inches of bullet-proof glass.
--I also love being able to tune out conversations and advertisements.
English being my primary language, I can't do this in the West.
--I love being based in this part of the world, with a nice variety of places to visit when vacation rolls around.
--I love the small mountains (we call them "hills" where I am from), which you can hike in a day and not worry about huffing and puffing through the altitude.
--I love the fact that there aren't any bears or cougars to worry about as you hike or camp in rural areas.
--I love how local folks you know really go out of their way to make you feel good and maintain a happy relationship feeling.
--I love how they've made Seoul much much much more nice
for cycling, with bike lanes and letting you take your bike on the subway (though only on Sundays)
There's a lot more, but I'll just offer these. |

Keep in mind that this is the internet. Happy people are too busy enjoying themselves to post frequently online. Miserable people have all the time in the world to complain on the internet. This is true of any internet forum discussing any topic.
It only makes sense. If you have lots of friends and enjoy the country, you will be with your friends after work enjoying yourself. If you feel lonely or rejected by the country, you will be at home with all the time on your hands that you need to post 30 messages a day about how bad Korea is. |

You should be happy some Korean finally popped your cherry. It was getting tiring seeing all your "hey guys, how do you pick up chicks?" posts. |

What about People who are very happy but spend time posing on Dave's? Is that an impossible equation?

Fast cheap internet.
Washed romaine lettuce freely available.
Fast cheap shipping. Why bother to shlep across town to a bookstore when I can order it online and get it the next day?
Cheap transportation. Wish the subways stayed open longer tho.
Low crime. No guns.
Lots of public toilets.
Jjimjilbangs. Korean body scrubs.
T-money.
Lots of free samples at the supermarket.
Being able to block off the noise from ads, chatting on cellphones on subways etc.
Dislikes: chili paste in everything, soju, spitting, xenophobia, lack of sense of personal space or right-of-way, Korean fashion, ridiculous bureaucracy (see new visa requirements), last-minute (if any) planning... oh wait going off-topic.... |

I like a bunch of things in Korea. In no particular order:
Parts of the culture, temples, historic sights , cheap food , street food , my in-laws, mother in-law's cooking, public transportation, country side , rice fields, the landscape, my wife's friends. strangers not talking about Facebook, i like being far away from home and from people i know.... I could go on... My list could be equally big for stuff i don't like about Korea As it would be for any other country I would live in/visit... I do think I would enjoy living in Korea a lot more than I do in Canada. |

The trolls in this case are the two gyopos who are criticizing radius for stating his opinion! madoka, shinramyun, you guys are consistent bashers of posters who dare speak of criticizing things Korean. Get out from under your bridge trolls! Stop playin' Defenders of the Faith. The atmosphere at Dave's suffers as a result. radius said something relevant to this thread, and sure seems true too. Your bashings seem unwarranted here. This thread is "Is there ANYTHING you like about Korea" so it makes sense that a poster who likes very little says what little he likes! I like a lot, INCLUDING hearing criticisms of Korea. It's cathartic, helps with the difficult moments. When someone else rants I feel I don't have to. My little concerns pale in comparison, it's easier to adjust. I like Dave's posters who speak honestly about their problems. Hopefully that won't change to appease some angry objectors. |

I have only been here a little over a month, but I know quite a few people that are here and have been here for a year or more. People don't come online to post about how great life is. You only get a small sample and 90% of it is people venting.double entendre |

Groceries aren't cheap, food is not cheap. For the same price I spend on a meal, I could be eating something nice at Apple bees or Chilis everyday (or something similar) every night.
Unless you're only eating kimbap, then I don't see how you could say food is cheap here. |

Food is most certainly cheap in Korea, you can get a full meal with sides for 5k or less if you find the right place.
비빔국수 was always a good go to |

Eating in Korean restaurants is cheap; buying ingredients for Western-style cooking at your place is not cheap. |
