plan enough dates. she wants me to book something in advance and take her out. but there isn't much to do besides go out, drink, watch a movie, eat dinner, walk around, go to a gallery. i cook her dinner all the frickin time, but it's not enough. do you guys have any ideas? i mentioned taking her to watch Nanta but she didn't seem too interested. |

nanta might not be for everyone, but what about another musical or play? what about opera or ballet? i think even reservations at a nice restaurant might do it since it's probably more about making the evening seem special/like an event than it is about what you're actually doing - adding a little romance and a sense of production/tension to things if you will. you could also try going to an amusement park or possibly ice skating at lotte world to mix things up? |

I broke up with my ex because she wanted so much attention (and because she was a bit crazy...), but now I want to get back into a relationship...
Go tandem biking along the Han before it gets (too) cold! Bring along a picnic basket and have a picnic after you guys're warm from pedaling. That should get you through a week before she starts calling for more dates again. |

Jump is kind of cool, it is like NANTA in some ways, though Jump is more about martial arts. |

i haven't been to an english play in a while, but there're some good ones in hyehwa from time to time. i saw a poster for a shakepearean production by actors without borders the other day - but am not sure if it's still going on and could only find a blog review of it (http://ripcitytoseoul.wordpress.com/2010/09/09/review-awobs-shakespeare-love-sex-romance/) when i did a google search. |

If I may pipe in, Ive been here for a while, and dated alot, but never got got, if you get it. I dont find alot of stuff to do here myself, even after all this time, and I found myself in that situation: what to do? Eat, drink coffee, see a movie, drink alcohol, and er...get down (that cant be censored, right?), and that about it. I think individually, sports may be a good answer, but I am of the opinion that, for various reasons, culturally, theres not much to do, so I think you must be very self motivated.
Girls here, I find, GENERALLY (I said generally) as well as guys, stay with their folks, so when they get out, theyre desperate for something to do, but they dont know how to do it. Ive lived in SHIGOL and Ive lived in Gangnam, and Ive seen the same look of boredom in both places. Go to Dunkin and look how many people sit: slumped, listless, etc. I guess thats a product on environment and culture here. People dont know how to be self starters and do something, and theres not alot to do outside of work and family. Maybe in a generation or two, the young people will develop some more ..um..things to do.
So, I get what youre saying, I am a self starter, and try to keep myself very active, mentally, and physically, but Ive realized when other people see that, they ask me to join them or help them in some way, like a gf who always needs my time or something. So, Ive never been able to settle down here, and I think alot of ladies here, as nice and pretty as they are, are kind of like what I said.
sorry for being a bit long winded, but I wanted to share some empathy. |

Take her to Namsan Tower. Bonus points if you bring a padlock to put on the fence and write "machoman <3 Yujin" (or whatever her name is) on it.
To Korean girls, a trip to Namsan Tower is what makes a relationship official. |

Couldn't agree more with what happiness said.
My gf and I took a trip to Europe and I couldn't help but be charmed by people with actual hobbies other than "studying". It's like the word studying here means go to the coffee shop with your friends and sit with the book open on the phone or surfing the internet
Lots of girls here don't know what they want in life because they got all their direction from other sources. My gf is no different. She can't seem to focus on any one thing, nor put a plan in motion herself. Its too bad- she can cook some mean flapjacks!
+1 on Gangnam. That's why I loathe it there. People there even wish they were someplace else |

yeah, i had a ..friend..and she wa a bit more traveled and such, but still, no direction. once, she told me to have two choices for our date, and I came up with two really nice ones, but when I told her, she asked me for two more. I really do think it takes a certain kind of person to want to get involved with a Korean lady or gent. Its not just being pateint and understanding, you have to be able to see eye to eye, and unfortunately for me, ive always found those quick fun date types are best, they dont ask for much. |

That's too bad. I've met some fantastic K-gals (that my friends went ahead and married) but it seems I got a leech stuck on me- think Stand By Me |

Take her to your bedroom.
Tell her that is the date.
If she's not into it and if a coffee or beer after that isn't good enough , personally I'd dump her. |

You could dump her. She sounds spoiled and lazy. Why doesn't she come up with any ideas? It's not a one-way street.
But if you want to stay with her maybe pick up one of the monthly entertainment magazines like Seoul, 10 and/or Groove. You can see what's going on that month, festivals, new restaurants, movies, what's going on in other parts of Korea, specials going on at hotels, all kinds of clubs and interests groups to join and so on.
You can subscribe or pick up those magazines in the Itaewon area. |
