Hi all,
I live in Japan at the moment and will be moving to Korea in January.
At the moment I export cars from Japan. I would like to send a few cars to Korea for myself and to sell on.
Does anyone know how it can be done?
I have found some info on the net and on this site but I am looking to hear from someone who has done it themselves or someone who has heard from a friend.
Some of the cars I would like to send over are Toyota Glanzas, Evos and of course Skylines.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Most of the information mentions the customs, tax etc but I was wondering do the cars need to be tested or modified if so what are the requirements? Also I read in another post that only registered imports car bring dealers can bring cars in but im not sure about this.
Thanks |
contact customs for your best answers as to the how and how much.

Hey OP,
just wondering if most Koreans or western countries that you export to care about the steering wheel being on the right side instead of what they're used to, or is that even an issue when you're doing the exports? |

I saw a nice R33 Skyline over here, obviously a Jap import due to the wheel being on the right side, so it's possible, but not sure if they driver here did it cos it was cheaper or wanted a sweet ride! |

I was only asking because I think I've only seen two cars like that in my entire life in LA or anywhere else in America. That's not saying much, I'm sure there are tons around that I've never seen. Just very interesting to me that people can switch the steering wheel to the other side so easily. I love Japanese cars (have 2 now - 2010 Camry & 2005 Camry, had two Toy trucks), but I don't think there's any way I could ever get used to driving like that...
Sorry for the railroad job I did on your thread btw. |

I've seen a Toyota MR2 club driving around on Ganghwa Island (mainly SW20s if you know model codes) and I wondered if they imported privately or through a dealer.
I suspect privately, but there are probably lots of restrictions. I doubt you would be able to import "a few cars" without some kind of dealer status.
You could probably search for the MR2 club on Naver and get some answers.
Ditto for the MX5 (Miata) club |

I mostly export to Australia, The UK and Ireland so no prolem there. However we export a lot to Canada. They drive on the opposite side and dont seem to car about the side of the steering wheel. |

jdmcars.
I posted a similar post about a month back.
I wanted to find more info on having a RHD car imported, registered and insured here.
There area few about.. I've seen a Supra (auto - dunno why u would) around Gangnam and a MR-S in Gangwon when I was stuck there...
Luv to heard about what you already know about the registration and insurance issues/costs, as that will be my main concern. I did hear maybe there is an emissions/noise test.
Keep in contact man. |
