I haven't a clue what you're talking about. Who cares about your age - except Koreans? Once you get really old, you'll just dress for the weather anyway.

I am gripped in a sudden wave of insecurity. Is it time to start dressing like I'm at work, when I'm not at work? What do people my age even wear?

In before the Dave's Fashion Police make their flashy and impractical but fashionable entrance down the catwalk of this thread.

LOL @ "no one over 25 should ever wear shorts for any reason outside of the gym."

Thanks for making me smile. Old. 28. Whatever. Ageism sucks.

If you wanna be fortysomething in jeans and a t-shirt, go ahead.

Wow. You're ancient. Time to just set yourself out on an ice floe.

No, but I do love Larry David.

But there was a thread recently about Korean fashion where the "fashionable" members of Dave's were spewing all this crazy b.s. about what people should and should never wear.

I love that girls can get away with so much more.

In warm weather, I wear sleeveless blouse-style dresses with shorts.

When it gets cold, I wear black yoga pants and cute, long sweaters to work. I do teach at elementary, and make sure to wear some long black pearls or something to dress it up, but it's so much easier than it is for my male counterparts.

at work, it's not a problem. i wear a shirt and tie (and flip flops.) i'm talking more specifically about my piercings. i have two gauges. i feel like there's got to be a time or certain age where i should let them go.

i just don't want to go down the same road as howie mandel, where he shaved his head, got a loop earring, and a thumb ring.

trying too hard to cling on to your youth when you get older seems desperate and it's worse when you don't have the self awareness to realize it.

Cling to youth with nicely-tailored jeans and use a good sunblock and moisturizer. I say ditch the plugs, but it's really your call. I got rid of all piercings except my original earrings (the only Mom-approved ones. She had them done when I was 5 months so that I wouldn't play with them, like older children do) in my early-to-mid 20s.

If you like them, though, keep them. The thing with larger gauges is that you'll always have the holes, but they will probably shrink over time.

good call.

at least you are self aware now.

i'm 23, but until recently, like you, i was totally unaware i was still dressing like a high school kid. i am constantly mistaken for a student wherever i go in seoul. and not necessarily college, either. kind of embarrassing, so i too am trying to dress better.

what i don't really understand is what you're trying to get help with. you're main sticking point is the earrings? so why not just lose them? if you're already wearing a shirt and tie, then that's that, no?

don't wear band t-shirts
don't wear super lose/baggy clothes
groom
wear nice pairs of pants
i think you're good to go

the shirt and tie is for work.

outside of work, for the most part, i dress fine. the only other issue are my shoes. i like wearing funky shoes. i like a little bit of flavor. but, i think it's time to switch shoe styles too.
