OK, so I'm Canadian and I applied to Grad School in the UK last year, I got accepted and deferred for a year. I start Sept 2011. I know I really should have thought about this earlier but is it going to be difficult for me to get a Canadian student loan, I've been in Korea 2 years already and my contract ends August 2011. I'd also like to give OSAP a shot, since I'm from Ontario, but again I don't live there anymore. Has anybody successfully done this or know of people who have? |

Were your loan payments deferred or were you successfully making payments? Did they know you were overseas?
Haven't applied for OSAP in a while but think it should be doable as long as your existing loans are in good standing, the school you're slated to attend is on their list of acceptable institutions, and you have a plausible explanation for how you will meet additional study expenses (if any).
Only angle I am unclear on is the being overseas element. I think there may be restrictions regarding you being out of province for more than 12 months that may affect you getting the Ontario portion. However, if they do not know that you are overseas you may be able to finesse this aspect of the application.
Good luck! |

As a Massachusetts resident, I would kill to no longer be a resident of my state after a year. Consider yourself lucky. |
