You don't get a pass or fail for these things, though, so it's kind of fun to be subversive if you're inclined. I demanded brown rice or barley, and after the first day and saying that "I'm so hungry" and "I must go home if there is no food for me. I love Korean food, but I must cook it at home if you can't provide it," they had a bowl ready for me at every meal.
I also took handful after handful of mini Snicker's bars, because they didn't have any acceptable protein for me. |

You're fun. My wife is a vegan and it's equally fun to take her out to dinner. |

It goes both ways. I went to Moby's vegan tea shop wearing a mink coat and ivory bracelet.
It depends on my mood. In the case of the EPIK thing, I'd been given less than a day's notice and had to scramble for a pet sitter. I also usually don't like sharing accommodation (though my roomie turned out to be really cool and we still hang out). When they asked if I had any special dietary needs, I decided that they were going to have to accommodate, or I'd be forced to leave "for my health." |

To reply to the first lot of stuff that you wrote...I am not blaming the foreign teachers. I'm simply saying that in life we have to sometimes do things that we don't want to do. It doesn't matter where you work...there will always be something that you don't want to do. I'm not blaming anyone. If I were to blame someone, I'd probably blame the politicians who created the legislation that says that we have to do 30 hours of training a year.

Ah, so you're presenting at GEPIK orientations even though you don't have a co-teacher and don't teach with a co-teacher. Interesting. |
You've lost me here. Only people with co-teachers should be allowed to present at Orientations? WTF? I mean...having a co-teacher doesn't make you a better teacher. I don't talk about co-teaching...I don't have anything to say about co-teaching...I've always taught on my own. I'm not sure what your point is, but there are plenty of GEPIK teachers without co-teachers...and the topics that I discuss are all relevant for people with and without co-teachers. |

Who teaches in public schools without a co-teacher? That's odd. Burndog, you do agree that most other GEPIK teachers do have co-teachers and should hear presentations from speakers who know something about co-teaching?
Co-teaching is the biggest challenge most public school teachers face. It would be helpful if GEPIK would have speakers who can address co-teaching. Hearing from speakers in unique situations (like burndog) from very small schools with advanced students doesn't help most foreign teachers. New teachers need to hear advice about what they will be dealing with at their schools. |

Hey Wylies!
They have three or four different talks. One about co-teaching, and another is a demonstration of co-teaching which includes a lot of advice and tips about the relationship and how to deal with problems in that relationship. They get a LOT of stuff about co-teaching. I talk about other aspects of teaching. It would be mental to JUST talk about co-teaching and not cover things like classroom management, lesson planning and lesson material.
I think that GEPIK does a good job with the new teacher training...and hopefully the experienced teacher stuff will get better in time.
Edit - Oh...and I am not from a very small school with advanced students. I am from a normal school in Suwon with normal Suwon students. I don't have a co-teacher because my Principal is an ideas man who thinks that the homeroom teachers co-teach (they don't...they sleep or do other work). |
