If I were to leave this weekend, the first week!, what would happen with regards to the flight money? Would they chase me up in England? |

Nope. Youre free to go. You might get some nasty phone calls or emails, but thats about it. It may also affect your ability to return to korea, but that's a problem only if you care. |

And would there be any difficulty in the airport with leaving so early on a single-entrance visa? |

A slate of questions:
1. Where is your passport? If you don't have the passport in hand, you're not leaving the country.
2. If you do have the passport in hand, why? You should apply for the ARC (Alien Registration Card) as soon as you can.
3. Do you work for a public school or a hagweon?
4. Why do you want to bail after just one month? |

Indeed that would seem to be part of it among other reasons. |

I doubt they'd ask any questions, if they do feel free to tell them the truth, it's not like they can stop you from leaving, so there's no reason to lie or worry about it.
But really, one week? Is it really THAT bad? Seems like you're not even giving it a chance. |

I was genuinely excited about getting here but it's completely evaporated since touchdown. If my apartment weren't so intolerable and I could get some decent sleep then I might not be considering running, and I've already completed a contract last year but things just don't feel right. Don't want to dwell too much on the reasons so I'm just asking for info on the running-option. |

Got my passport, and I have to wait 2 weeks before I can get the alien card. Work at a hagwon, and just feel like I've made a mistake returning.
Do I need the alien card to leave? |

You do not have to wait two weeks to apply for the ARC. When you do apply, though, you have to wait two weeks for the ARC to be issued. When you return to Immigration to pick up the ARC, you also pick up your passport.
As long as you have your passport and you're still within the 90 day limit for issuance of the ARC, you should be able to sashay out of the country. |

If you were a new arrival i'd tell you to hang in there and give it time.
However, you've been in Korea for a year before so you know the game by now. If you feel the school is crap and you want to leave, then that's the right decision for you. Unfortunate for you and the school though. All the best whatever decision you make. |

No, you don't need the card to leave. Sorry to hear job number 2 sucks. I take back me previous comment about you not giving it a chance, I had assumed you were a newbie (I should know better than to assume things, you know what they about when people assume).
Anyways, is it just the current job conditions that are the problem? Do you think there's any chance you could find a new job and get your current employer to release you from your contract? Might be better than pulling a runner. Just putting it out there as an option, do whatever you think is best. |

CentralCali: I was under the impression that they had to wait for my hospital results before they could go through with the ARC if not, then I guess they're planning on taking me at some point.
PigeonFart: As of yet the problem isn't the school. The apartment, the lack of a co-teacher and my reaction so far is. Thanks though.
crisdean: It's not the job. The first trip was novel maybe the second is a mistake. |
