Agreed, but sometimes hot water and soap aren't available.

I'm a grubby as a 12 year old Korean boy and I get sick maybe twice a year... I *like* to think my lifetime of grubbiness keeps my immune system well, but it's probably just lucky genes. Or maybe getting sick twice a year is actually a lot, I dunno.

Why wear gloves only on the bus or train? If you're going to take it that far, you might as well wear them everywhere.

Well, anytime you touch a handrail it makes sense, but how often does that happen outside of public transport? I also carry hand sanitizer at all times, though I don't abuse it, because one needs to keep some natural immunity going. Here, though, I use it far more than I ever did at home.
Escalators, elevators, doors, etc...

All most likely just as dirty as the subway or a bus.

Same here. I clean my apt once a month and rarely wash my hands before eating. I smoke and drink like a trooper eat like a pig on pot and have poor sleep habbits. I get sick around once or twice a year and only colds.

I don't touch handrails on elevators or escalators. The only thing I touch is the buttons on the elevator, and I disinfect or wash my hands as soon as possible after that. I push doors open with my arm--never my hand, unless I need to pull. Then, I do exactly the same as with elevator buttons. Fortunately, once it's fall, I'm wearing gloves anyway.

That's basically more than I've ever been sick my entire life before Korea - And I was never considered 'hygienic' - Whatever that is.

But yeah I'm a lot more cleanly with myself here than I was back home - though I never took as much into account as has been discussed here.

My resulting actions probably weren't sufficient but I hope the theory of a good immune system works for me too because I think I'm pretty much over it now. However my body is completely empty and going to the bathroom is essentially a waste of time until I get chance to fill myself up again.

I got my American-but-fluent-in-korean friend to lump me towards the pharmacist and translate for me and gave informed me of instructions to take stuff, it seemed to do the trick but I was very much considering the hospital if it wasn't for the harsh aftereffects it would have led my classes to if I took TWO days off. I'm just that dedicated.

When I went to thailand, I came back with a strange yet comfortable cough that was actually enjoyable, for at least a month. That was odd. But I've never contracted any other foreign illnesses to date. I've noticed suspicious sick absences from students so my bet is physical contact with one of those...

^^^

This is called ocd.

No offense.

I remember in the xanax thread you saying you had it.

You must admit none of the things you do are actually neccesary to keep healthy. Germs are actually good for the immune system.

I am surprised that no one has suggested yet that the OP may not be getting enough of his RDA of kimchi-a sure cure-all for any malady.

And to add to the anecdotal research of this thread, in my 3 years in Korea, I was sick with a severe cold only once, and that was in my first 2 months. I also got food poisoning from a Samgyeopsal restaurant in my 3rd month, but I blame myself, not them. Ever since then I have been pretty healthy. But I hasten to add "KNOCK ON WOOD"! I eat probably a 50/50 split of western food at home that I cook and Korean food from restaurants, and never any fast food. I don't smoke cigarettes but will have a cigar on rare occasions and I drink import beer, wine, and soju like they are going out of style.

Someone else suggested maybe the Seoul pollution could be a possible cause of health problems and I would not doubt it.

EDIT: My gloves are green cashmere. There's no reason to forgo fashion for health.

Solid advice. I also suggest heavy use of mouth wash after any make out session, and a 3 day quarantine period before anything like cuddling occurs.

Yes it is called OCD. Do you think that you're helpful in telling me what I already know?

Actually, washing or sanitizing your hands after touching these types of things can be good for your health. Necessary, perhaps not, but I've got very sensitive skin. I can get contact dermatitis very easily. I was exposed to my fair share of germs when young (and I still give my elementary schoolers high fives and hugs), have gone camping every year but one since I was an infant (Mom even went camping whilst pregnant!), and am an avid gardener, getting my hands dirty and eating tomatoes and green beans straight from the vine, but my skin and rashes are best friends. I hardly ever get colds and the like (only occasional sore throats), but my skin is extremely sensitive. I'm even allergic to stainless steel.

That's why one finds a clean husband or wife Wink

EDIT: Mouthwash is to be used before make out sessions! (and after brushing and flossing, which of course is after every meal)

Lol passion killer!

Globutron do you smoke?

That could be your problem if you do, added to the pollution etc.

Plus I recall you having made some posts where your work situation was stressful.

That can have an effect on the health.

LOL

So you don't practice good dental hygiene after you eat? If you brush, floss, and rinse after every meal, you don't have to right before a make-out session. <<wags brows>>

You're also saying that if/when you wake up in the morning and want some lovin', you don't brush first? Ick! Get up, have a wee, brush/rinse, and jump back into bed for a lovely weekend morning.

^^

Seriously, each to their own but i've never slept with one person that did that sort of stuff and I've slept with a lot of women.

Wink

Though it's probably coz I'm so irresistable they just don't care and would be nervous about upsetting me and then them not getting any.

Laughing
