The answer to the OP's question is both Love & Leave.
Foreigners leave Korea bitching about it, get home and see how hard it is working a 9-5 job and love Korea and want to come back.
I've seen this with more than a few foreigners. |

| Tolerable. Could be better, could be worse. Easy to live here when you don't have any financial commitments and live with a "nothing to lose" attitude. Quite easily, actually. But still hate the lack of manners and general ignorance of the place. Guess I'm just used to it.. |

Korea's a terrible place to teach if you actually have some training in EFL,nobody has any training in whom they're supposed to be managing and students/parents favor style over substance and have no idea how to set goals for language learning or what they even are.
I said screw it and went home and found a job teaching adults, 9-2, for good money, no headaches, and a ton of managerial understanding and support, while subbing at another place for 35 dollars an hour.
I teach students who want to be there and they are from all over the world. The downside is I will never move up (and if I did I'd make less money) and I will probably not get a raise, but as I'm in grad school it's a perfect gig for the time being.
If you have some kind of certification beyond just an online TEFL, you'd be surprised what you can find in the US. |
