Say, at the end of the your contract you leave your job and get another. What if you don't think you'll get a gleaming reference from your last boss. What do you do? Put him down as a reference anyway? I would assume tht your next employer will want to speak to someone from your last job, but if he'll sabotage your chances, whats the use? Im not saying im in the predicament, but if it ever should happen, id like to know the best way to handle it.

Before you give him as a reference, have a friend call him, posing as a potential employer, and ask him for a reference. See what he says. If he says something good about you, then all's well. If he says something bad about you, then you know it and can plan accordingly.

You could also ask one of the Korean Teachers who like you to do the reference for you. List them as your "Mentor Teacher" or "Head Teacher" whom you worked directly with/under and tell the new school that you didn't deal directly with the director much.

Are there any Korean teachers at your former work place that you got along well with? If so, ask them if they can be your reference. Get their cell number and provide it to the job you want.
I did not get along with a former boss, but I needed to provide a reference for a job I wanted. I called up my friend from my former company and he happily provided a very good reference for me. He told them he was the head of the teachers at the school (partially the truth). They didn't ask any questions and seemed to accept it.

Good luck.
