Do you guys have a favourite?
I took Ttompatz's advice last vacation and hit Alona Tropical Resort. LOVED it. Definitely will go back some time. Anything similar in Boracay? |

I loved Alona Tropical because of it's beach-front setting, price, convenient services, and MOST of all, the fact that it was integrated into the nature surrounding it. Plenty of palm trees and vegetation. Not some box-like 5 star resort that's brand new surrounded by cement. |

My hubby and I were thinking of Boracay for our next vacation. I looked into Alona, and it said they closed in August, if I recall correctly. We ended up nixing Boracay because it seemed too much of a party & drink place rather than relax and enjoy nature. I would love to hear differently, if people know of places. |

Ttompatz liked Nigi-Nigi noo noos. (not to be confused with their other properties).
Right on the beach (near station 2), they will (or used to) pick you up at Caticlan rather that you needing to catch a ride over to the island from the pier, decent happy hour with p25 beers and the all you can eat breakfast was decent too.
We have stayed at others and I have yet to find one to complain about.
If you are low budget, consider the back side of the island (saging-saging). they had places from p700 per night.
Again, for the budget traveler you can look at the fan rooms behind Alice's. They used to go for about p800 per night.
You can also get a pretty good idea of places, services and prices from http://www.boracay.com/ .
Sea-air also puts together some Ok packages iincluding airfare from either Manila or Cebu to Caticlan. Their prices ranged from p8000 for 3 nights (basic room with private bath, aircon and breakfast) up to about p20,000 for deluxe (4.5*) accommodations.
We have also stayed at the A-rock, Tonglen, Villa de Oro among others with no real complaints about any of them.

I always thought Boracay was a place to party too, which I definitely don't want as I'm going with family. Lately, everyone I talk to says there's something for everyone. There are more quiet, chill places, too. |

If you go in low season, I'd nix making advance reservations and go to Boat Station 3 for bargains. I got a place right near the beach for 800 pesos a night. Just ask around and you could save quite a bit.
The strategy is to stay one night and see how it goes. If it's a nice place, then stay longer, and if not, move on to find another bargain.
And Boracay is FAR from an excessive party place. If you want to party, you can but if you don't want to, you don't have to. I just spend nearly two weeks there and it was awesome. |

Ttompatz always travels with the family and there is always enough beach time for our daughter and shopping at D'mall for the wife.
IF you want to head out for late dinner under the torches that is available as well as the underground disco for those who like to dance a night away (child care services can be arranged by your front desk (usually off-duty desk or house-keeping girls).

Station 3 is cheap but unless you're trying really hard to budget I'd go ahead and spend 1,000 somewhere around Station 2. If you're interested in partying (or even eating) Station 3 (Miranda's Garden or whatever) can be a real trek. |

Sorry but Station 3 was fine for me. The happy hours there ran from as early as 2 p.m. to as late as 8 p.m. and a bottle of San Miguel was just 30 pesos. The food was also good and cheap (at least where I stayed) and the quietness was also a big plus. |

When were you there? Just wondering if it's a bit more built up or if we have differences of opinion. I can't remember seeing a single bar around that could have even had a happy hour when I was there, and the food options were seriously lacking. There was one cafe type place right by where we were staying, everything else was 15 minutes or more away on foot around Station 2, unless I wanted to go in the opposite direction. It may be that I stayed in a no man's land between Stations 2 and 3 though. |

I was at Moreno's Place, a little up from Melinda's Garden. The place was clean and just 20 seconds from the beach. There was a German-owned bar and bed next to it.
On the beach, there was a bar and grill named Shantal's and it served a good cheeseburger for just 120 pesos, a great sandwich for the same, and other stuff. Watching the sunset from there was also great and quiet, plus the manager of Moreno's hooked us up with other specials including a sunset sailing trip.
Looking a bit harder and taking a small risk can result in dividends. |

When you show up on December 30th at 10:30 PM and the person whose house you were supposed to stay at informs you at 11:30 PM that you won't be able to stay there after you wander around for an hour unsure of what to do, taking risks ceases to be the prerogative.
In any case, I stayed at four different places on Boracay. I was a lot happier staying a hundred yards or so from the beach on the road near Station 2 (for only 800 pesos a night) than I was staying closer to the beach at a place near Melinda's Garden for 750 pesos a night. |

I've hit Boracay four times all in low season (well, April is considered high season for Filipino tourists but merchants complain Filipinos don't spend squat) so okay, in that case, risks wouldn't be prudent.
To each his or her own. I had a great time in Boat Station 3 even though I had a big hike (which was good for my health) every time I wanted to go to another part of White Beach. |

Yup, went to Boracay 6 years ago for my honeymoon and it didn't strike me as overly partying either.
Great sunsets! |
