Hey everyone,

I came to Korea about a month ago on a nice E2 visa ready to do some work. Unfortunately I came to a filled position while I was on the plane, and got my visa canceled. So ive spent time looking for a job, and thanks to the new visa regulations I had to spend a pretty penny to get a copy of my diploma with the seal and works. I was told from the last school that I could go to Japan for a visa run if I get a new job, and I shouldnt worry about the CBC because Ive spent my time in Korea. However I keep hearing different stories about whether or not its true. Im on my last month here and now I have no clue who to believe. Im debating if I should just head back home, go work in China, or hopefully I can do the whole Japan visa run and no CBC.

I was in a similar situation. In short, I worked at school 1 ending in September, and in August I had a visa for school 2. Well, things went sour with school 2, and I only had a couple weeks to get school 3. I was wondering the same things you were.

School 3 scheduled an appointment with an immigration officer and when we went in, all they did was update my ARC card and put a new stamp for transfer of location. I walked out with my passport and ARC card after 20 minutes.

Apply now and get something lined up immediately. While you get one interview, set up another in case the first falls through. You have the advantage, you got the paperwork. You just need the employer.

Since you already had a E2 (albeit for a few days) I think you should be able to do a Japan Visa Run. Get in touch with every recruiter on the jobs board. Go to worknplay asia as well and post your resume. Get a prepaid phone so recruiters can contact you if you havent done so already. Don't just rely on email - call the recruiters and talk to them. You are money in the bank for them - a teacher in country who can interview and is hard up. Cha-Ching! Let them know that you have your documents in hand. Go on as many interviews as you can. Then choose after 1 or 2 weeks of interviewing.

A question about your CBC? Does immigration have it? What happened to it?

Who paid for your plane ticket? If you did, then complain to the labor board. They won't be able to help you, but it will leave a mark on the school/owner's record for breaking a contract. They have to give you 30 days notice, and if they cancelled your visa while you were on your way here, then they obviously didn't give you 30 days. They could have at least done you the courtesy of letting you transfer.

Since you're already here, you're not going to get your airfare to Korea reimbursed, so I hope that your ex-employer paid for it.

I might be wrong, but I think that your sponsor (i.e. your ex-employer) is also responsible for getting you back home if you have no money. Ask immigration about that. Tell them that you just got here and have no money to buy a ticket home. See what they say. If your scum bucket ex-employer is responsible for sending you home, then by all means get immigration to enforce it. "Sorry. I just graduated and I have no money. I was coming here to pay off my student debts. My parents are broke as well. What can I do?"

I've come to Korea before without a job and I've had two schools that not only paid for the visa run to Japan, but also reimbursed me the airfare from my flight home. Now, they may not do it these days due to the nature of the economy, but just tell your new potential school that you need your airfare reimbursed or you'll sign elswhere. Then you can gauge how desperate they are.
