I read recently (though I can t fond the thread) - if you havent left korea - you can use a korean police Criminal Background Check as evidence for your E2 visa instead of the CBC from UK/scotland.
last year I spent $$$$$ and 1 month going back home, getting a police clearance/appostile and then coming back to sunny ROK.
So, today out of curiosity, I walked into the police station and asked for a police clearance to prove I had no outstanding endorsments etc. hadnt commited any crimes. In 5 mins - they gave me a piece of paper - for free.
I cant believe it was this easy - there has to be a catch.
Can you really do this so simply? |

Only catch is that your Korean CRC is not required for an E2 (new or extension/renewal). Reason is that the immigration service is a department of the ministry of justice as are the police and prosecutor's office.
If you do anything here and it goes on file with the MOJ then immigration has it already in your file.
If your current E2 was obtained with a CRC that had an apostille (and was national) and you have not left the country for more than 90 days (you have maintained your residence) you do not need a new CRC (for a renewal or visa transfer).

well that makes sense.
It certainly does make life a lot easier for us when were trying to get new E2s if we dont have to renew the CBC - one hurdle down! |
