I'm thinking of going to this on Saturday. Eleven bands sounds pretty
good. Has anyone been before? I have a few questions:

-is it family friendly? I have a 10-month-old-baby and wife
-is there things to do outside?
-is there cool food to be had?

Thx

If you mean the "Haebangchon" Festival, I don't think it's the best environment for a baby.

I was at the one in the summer. I went between 10pm and midnight to say goodbye to some friends that were leaving the country.

It was insane. I didn't see how it was earlier, but a friend said it was rowdy all day.

Is it family friendly? I have a 10-month-old-baby and wife.
I would say no. The streets were extremely crowded. There was barely room for cars to get by. I wouldn't want to carry a baby or push a stroller through that mess.

Is there things to do outside?
Yes. You can maneuver your way through drunks and bottles on the ground, while hearing a lot of 'WOO HOOING'.

Is there cool food to be had?
I didn't see any food outside, but I didn't look very hard. The food that was available seemed to be the food that you could get in any of those restaurants any day of the week.

You mentioned that there are 11 bands. I feel like there were a lot more bands during the summer. Maybe it will be more family friendly. Not something Id be willing to roll the dice on. Not that it was dangerous, but going down there with your family and being greeted by a drunken rugby scrum would be quite a waste of time.

you ask people who live here in hbc and the consensus is:

IT STINKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

places are way to small for bands, people all over the streets blocking traffic, drunks all over the place puking on peoples porches, loud and obnoxious foreigners all over the place, most not from hbc

i know some people who actually get hotels in other parts of town for the night.

oh yeah many of the bands are simply god awful

a real nice time...

definitely not family friendly. i went to the one in the summer, and people were already pretty drunk by 8/9pm. besides that, a lot of the music was blasted on the street too, so there'd really be no break from the noise for your 10 month old.

Hey, that's what a party is dude. It is not scholarly people in tuxedos drinking sherry and talking about philosophy. That was exactly what I had in mind. However, I don't think the baby and wife would be too keen. Oh well. I'll try and find a non-cam version of Inception instead and watch that.

That HBC fest is a disaster. A high-powered neighborhood animosity generator.

Maybe if they could close down the street (which I don't think is possible because no other streets go that way) and end it at a reasonable time so that families don't have to deal with 700 loud drunk people on the street until 4am it might be cool.

But 11 cover "bands" playing John Mayer songs and drunk whiteys smashing bottles on the street in front of families with little kids is not my idea of fun.

Perhaps these things are not for kids, but I think if you dowdy, wet blankets were in charge than things like Mardi Gras (New Orleans), Carnaval (Rio) and Oktoberfest (Munich) wouldn't exist, Lighten up dudes. This place ain't a monastery. And I'm speaking as a father.

He is right in that the music is pretty crap though. It actually seems to have gotten WORSE over the years, or maybe I'm just less tolerant. A "creative" festival featuring 90% covers.

OK, that I believe. How about Rock Tigers? Will they be there? They rock.

The Rock Tigers are entertaining. I do not know if they'll be there. I believe it is almost all expat bands.

yeah but hbc IS NO PLACE to have something like this, the bars are tiny given the # of people that show up, the police wont block off the street as it is a main street so you have traffic problems, the people wind up in residential areas making a mess. for residents here its just not worth it. it reminds of the area where i went to college on a sat nite but this aint a student area

thats why itaewon and hongdae exist they have the ability to have such an event, have it there

I have to disagree here. I think the more we can demostrate to Koreans that life is more than work, family and fried chicken, the better. One of the reasons this country is so boring is that Koreans don't know how to party. It is up to us to spearhead this lesson in good, head banging fun.

it's easy to disagree when it's not your neighborhood, or your porch that's being sh!t on.
