Things you expected to miss from back home, but don't
And things you didn't expect to miss but do.

EXPECTED to miss cream and an oven, but don't.

DIDN'T EXPECT to miss green grass and a variety of apples, but I do!

I didn't expect to miss wide open blue skys as much as I did. Betwen all the tall buildings and yellow dust you just don't see much of it.

I didn't expect to miss driving as much as I did. Public transportation is awsome, but so is having a trunk.

I expected to miss my friends more but from what I saw on Facebook, I didn't miss much.

DO MISS
a grassy area to play soccer or rugby whenever I want.
watching soccer and rugby at reasonable o'clock (kind of knew I would miss that)
saltier butter
bigger, more affordable boses of bran flakes
sandwiches
Cut cuts of beef, pork and chicken
going for a leisurely drive

DON'T MISS
having to drive everywhere cos walking to places is impossible in the back end of beyond
Not working
popcorn you get back home
tv, but then I download but things anyway

When I left America and moved to South Korea I didn't expect to miss Chinese food.

Honestly, I thought it would be easy to find things like char siu BBQ pork and roasted duck and dim sum in Korea, since China is a neighboring country. I found Korean Chinese food very disappointing.

I also didn't know that Koreans don't eat cilantro or basil. I spent my two years in Korea obsessed with those two herbs and always looking for my next fix.

I honestly didn't expect to miss my home town. Thought I'd never want to go back...but I do.

I miss cold crisp winter days and the sound of snow crunching under my feet.

I miss freshly cut grass in the morning and breakfast on the deck. Hell I miss just walking out to the car on a nice sunny morning and heading to work.

I miss people rushing to be polite..."Did you drop this sir?"..."No, after you."

Ironically though I don't miss all the PC nonsense and over the top politeness that is sometimes expected.

I miss plain old Canadian beer...not the good stuff (OK, not the average stuff...we Canucks don't exactly have the best brew) but the cheap run of the mill stuff. A Molson Dry would be really nice right about now.

I miss sitting around a camp fire with friends in cheap lawn chairs, drinking cheap beer. I was always the kind of guy who wasn't happy unless we had some mad adventure and sitting around the camp fire pissin the time away seemed a waste...now I'd love to just chill for the weekend around the fire. Not that you can't do that here...it's just so much more planning and work.

THIS^^^^^^^^^ When I went to Hong Kong for vacation, I remembered why I loved Chinese food so much.

Redaxe....I buy small basil plants at the beginning of the season, I am good all summer (could wish for more, but...) The horrible weather killed my cilantro while I was on vacation (I buy seeds on the internet). I never knew how much I loved these 2 herbs until they were work to get.

I miss limes...never would have thought.
I miss the convenience of a car, though I do not miss all the costs associated with it. Just wish I could borrow a friend's car about once a month.

I miss quiet, and I miss nature, or at least getting to it easily.

I don't miss all the run up to Christmas back home-I hate that crap. Two weeks of feeling festive are enough for me.

I don't miss being able to understand all the advertising around me. It's nice to be "on the outside" of all the social context stuff most of the time.

Expected to miss good beer, good liquor, good Western food.

Didn't expect to miss good conditioner, good skin products (well being able to find them easily, things have gotten better), and the salad bar- I'd have thought that there'd be plenty of those in Korea.

too true. there is an area near konkuk that sells authentic chinese food. that whole area is operated and run by chinese people. but it's mainland china style food. i miss western chinese food like orange chicken.

and true about the cilantro and basil, i actually bought seeds and want to grow my own.

I miss being able to buy lemons at any store. I miss affordable delicious fruit in general (20k for a watermelon??? *massive amount of tears*)

I miss having a dryer.

I miss going bra, clothes, and shoe shopping.

I don't miss living in a huge house. My little studio - enough room for me and my stuff, less cleaning.

I don't miss driving.

I don't miss dealing with agressive salespeople...Here I don't understand, so they don't bother.
