Ok Friday I was at my hogwon and asked the owner when my last day was since he wanted me to get my visa in canada before I flew to Korea, which caused a difference in visa start time ( 1st day of working) and actual start time, the day I actually started working which was June 26th. My visa says it exp. on june 24th, which means my last day of working would have to be Wednesday June 23rd at the very lastest, which doesnt give me much time to close bnak accounts etc etc... so my boss says well you arent working 2 days, thursday and friday, so im going to take that money off your paycheck and I said well you wanted me to have my visa before I came to korea, so I have to be out of the country before it expires or Im gonna get fined at the airport, and I called immigration at the airport and they said Canadians or anyone else from any other country have not even one day grace over their visa finishing date. I said I heard that we have at least a few days grace period and she said no, that i was misinformed. So anyways the boss told me I'd have that money taken off my check if I didnt go to immigration all the way in mok dong to get my visa extented... ummm what? why cant he just pay me my last check and let me leave? So I said well Im not paid by the hour im paid monthly and you shouldnt be allowed to take money off my check for 2 days, when it's not even my fault that I cant work those two days. So he didnt take this well, thought I was being ignorant and rude or whatever because i was questioning him about it when all I wanted to know was what day I could go home. So that was friday, over the weekend I read my contract again and it said that i have 3 sick days a year, and if no sick days are taken for the whole year then I can use them as vacation days. So monday I went in and told the supervisor what the contract says, and her the boss and all the foreign teachers (3) had a meeting about this for some reason. SO after that meeting was over, it ends up now, since I didnt take any sick day throughout the whole contract I get to go home on the 24th now, and he's paying me one extra day for the 3rd vacation (sick day). so... how come this wasnt mentioned on friday as a simple way to solve the problem instead of demanding for me to go all the way to mok dong and extend my visa? The sick days werent even brought up until I re-read the contract and pointed it out. any thoughts? cant wait to go home 11 more mondays...

Maybe he took a dislike to your poor grammar, lack of full stops, etc. I wouldn't employ someone who spoke several sentences without pausing for breath.

Ignore those others. They're barely literate enough to be annoying even in the best of times.

Thoughts on your situation? You got out of it and that's good.

having re -read your post it comes down to this. Learning to win the war but not the battle. Ie. your boss feels like he has won, by getting you to use the sick days and hasn't backed down. It's not logical to us but this isn't the west.

Dont get too offended about the grammar thing. It was a bit hard to read being in one long thingy.

Being Dyslexic and all it was impossible to want to read it.

Note points are easier to get replies.

Are you talking about the visa in your passport? I don't think it matters what the expiration date on it says: What matters is the expiration of your ARC. When you got your ARC, you had to have given them a copy of your contract, so the ARC would expire when your contract expired. Thus, it doesn't matter whether you got the visa before or after leaving Canada -- your ARC expires when the job is done. (In other words, it's not your boss's fault.) And if you need a few more days, go to immigration, pay the 30,000 and get an extension. It's not an unreasonable thing for your boss to expect of you. A lot of teachers have to do this.

Luckily, however, you discovered that you are entitled to a few days off at the end of your contract because you didn't use your sick days. That's great, but are you seriously blaming your boss for not mentioning it? I mean, they're your sick days, and you didn't even realize you had them coming until you reread your contract. Do you really expect your boss to keep track of your sick days for you? And you get angry with him because he didn't realize you had some saved up, even when you yourself didn't even realize it?

im not mad about the sick days im mad about him being so rediculously anal about paying for for those two days when im paid by the month. It seems alot of people are anal in this country, especially a director.

And...my ARC says june 24th, but I didnt start working until june 26th, so he thinks the last day of my contract is the 25th and he wasnt going to pay me for the 24th and 25th until I brought up the sick days.

Im sure he knew about them, he just decided to forget about them and hoped I wouldnt figure it out before I left.
