i gave up reading, but i saw it mentioned a few times: that old lady is a little famous in seoul. she has been dubbed 'the line 2 fighter' for a while now.
this is what she does. i have witnessed her acting like this before (not to that extent).
the little girl didn't do much wrong, just got a bit rude when the old lady said rotten things to her...
she was also not a native korean speaker.

This has already been discussed throughout the thread. Not only that, but you're wrong. The girl was not just a 'bit rude' she was extremely rude. I'm guessing you don't speak much Korean.

Let's see...the girl immediately apologized twice to the old woman, the old women continued to harangue the girl. Looks like the old woman deserved some extremely rude (as in very direct and abrubt) comments. No matter how rude the woman perceived the girl's remarks, violently assaulting the girl is unacceptable and the old woman certainly should spend some time in jail for that. I hope the girl's parents successfully sue the old woman, too. I'm guessing you don't read much English.

I like the very last sentence in that Korea Times article.
"They should have pulled them apart, a netizen nicknamed Mirunamu said.
No sh*t, genius.

Just because it's in the newspaper doesn't mean those are facts. They say eye witnesses, but were those formal statements to the police? Anyone can claim to be an eye witness and post it on the internet. They just posted the same thing that people have been saying on the internet for days.

Wow, slowmotion. That's the most disingenuous posting I've seen in ages. Good job!

Didn't think so. Again, internet to newspaper. No real facts.

Yet many KOREANS think that the old woman is out of line - heck, people in the video said so... and I'm guessing their Korean is better than yours. Wink

For the record I do believe the old lady was out of line, but I was just saying I can understand why she snapped. All I was saying was you were downplaying her rudeness. Oh and I don't feel sorry for the girl at all.

No, this is about the subway incident in Korea. This is a forum regarding living in Korea. Please keep comments relevant to living in Korea.

I was? I? Mind quoting me where I did that?
This is what I've written:
Captain Corea wrote:

Have you ever had to deal with a 'crazy' on the subway? Chances are, nothing she could have done would have been 'right'. If this woman is stalking people and trying to cause trouble, there's very little an unsuspecting person could do to avoid her.

I've lived here long enough to see NUMEROUS young people disrespect older people - and it doesn't always result in the young person being wrong. I've seen lots of old crazy people on the subway walk around hitting people and grabbing girls - do you think that the young people simply responded in formalities? No, they told them to F off. We don't know what happened before the vid, but IMO the older woman is looking like a nutter. And even in Korea, people sometimes tell of nutters.

Did i say that the girl was polite? Not rude? No, what I said was that when someone is attacked by a 'crazy' here in Korea, they don't always respond in Jeondaemal.

From what I can gather, many posters were simply saying that regardless of what she said... or how she said it, she didn't deserve to be physically attacked.
