Hey everyone,

I have accepted a position at Yes Youngdo in Cheonan, and was wondering if anyone is familiar with the school? Could I be so lucky to have someone who actually works there find this post?? (crossing fingers) I have found a bunch of useful information in the forums on the city, but any insights concerning that would also be appreciated. This will be my first time to Korea (leaving in a couple of weeks), so any other advice that hasn't been said over and over in the forums would be a huge help!

Thanks for your time!

Don't you think it would have been prudent to do the research before you accepted the job?

Youngdo is ok, not great. They are all basically the same, unless you get a crazy manager. You will be receiving advice on teaching from Korean office workers who have no experience teaching and whose English is often substandard.

The repetitive curriculum will grind on you after a while.

Thanks for the reply, youtuber. I have done plenty of research, read several forums, checked blacklists, etc. I didn't find much negative feedback for Youngdo in general, and found nothing on the branch I will be working. I probably should have made this post before accepting the position, but these forums aren't my only source of information. I was just hoping someone who has worked for them in Cheonan or elsewhere might see the post and offer some advice.

Have you worked for Yes Youngdo or know someone who has?

I worked at Yes Youngdo for a 2 years, and was a head teacher at a branch (not Cheonan). It's an ok place to get your foot in the door in Korea. You'll have a decent apartment and you don't have to worry about getting screwed over on pay.

With that said you are just a cog in the Youngdo machine, and no matter how much you give your loyalty will not be reciprocated (I've seen this disappointing fact on many occasions). You will get what you are allocated in contract and not a single thing more- although you will probably be asked to do them favors. Feel free to say no to any extras. There is generally negative feedback on your teaching and very little or no encouragement or positive reinforcement. Don't take it personally. Remember you are just a cog and the only thing that matters if profit. They believe their system is superior, so you MUST do things the Youngdo way. Don't even think about being overly creative in the classroom.

As i said, it is a stable place to get started in Korea, but you work a lot harder than the average hogwan. Youngdo burns people out very quickly, especially with their intensive vacation programs. Good luck!
