Check out this track from '86. Caution: it's addictive!

The singer was super popular in the 80's. I think all Koreans (old enough) would recognize this song and the singer (Nami).

I wonder what living in Korea back then would have been like for a foreigner. By that point it was a pretty wealthy country, but it would have been impossible to find any type of foreign food. Maybe Lotteria was around, or fried chicken. Who knows.
Was there Family Mart or GS25 anywhere?
I know that the first E-Mart didn't even open until 1993. Damn. Were there any Gallerias or anything of that nature?
Were there any hagwons? Probably in Gangnam, yeah? |

Catchy song, but I can never really dig 80s outfits.
I think I'll know what to sing for next Noraebang. |

Personally, think it sounds a bit like Alvin & the Chipmunks, but what do I know?
First one is a bit better, kind of like spicy bbong-jjahk? |

Yeah, Seotaeji REVOLUTIONIZED Korean music when he first came out--incidentally, 서태지 is a play on the word 'stage'. Shoulder pads and tapered pants aside, Seotaeji I think is still regarded as one of the best artists ever in Korea.
Also, if you want to see a Korean over 25 breakout in 80's dance moves, play one of Nami's songs. I think you'd be hardpressed to find a Korean who doesn't know her songs word for word.
A question I have now is, how can Korean music be so crap now, if was was decent back then?
I'm calling for a KOREAN RETRO REVIVAL! |

There were probably hagwon around, but I know that Gangnam was a barren field up until 15 years ago. |

Korea in the 80's wasn't wealthy, Korea was still very much a 3rd world country until the early 90's. Korea in the 80's looked kind of like what Thailand or Malaysia looks like now. |

Haha thanks for the song. I think I've heard it before in cabbie's cars or something.
I might try miathrates (wrong spelling, I know) way of studying Korean by using music. |
