Eating raw Korean eggs?

What does everyone think about eating Korean eggs raw? I'm in the midst of a health 'thing'. And this is something I'm willing to try, everyone has seen the unrefrigerated eggs laying around in the markets. I've read this is actually better for the eggs, as refrigeration destroys some of the proteins, best to store them somewhere cool. It's easier to tell if an egg is bad if it's unrefrigerated. Salmonella poisoning is also pretty rare, about a 0.003% chance, and if you get it and you are healthy, it ain't no biggie.

Anyone have experience with this? Thoughts?

i'd give the shells a good rinse first, i've seen some ones that looked pretty dirty

the japanese actually dip meat into raw egg and stir raw eggs into beef and rice bowls. it definitely doesn't get anywhere near the level of doneness that you see in dolsot bibimbap. however, they seem to be doing ok.

i mean, it's better safe than sorry, but if you really want to eat raw eggs, you're probably going to be alright.

my friend drank raw eggs 3 years ago when he was here bc he was trying to get buff. he's dead now. jk. he's fine.

Nice, funny. I'ma get me 6 eggs tonight and start tomorrow morning. I don't eat breakfast anyways, so this is a good and quick fix for that too.

personally, i wouldn't drink raw eggs. my stomach is sensitive as it is, and i'd be afraid of getting massive diarrhea. why not boil them the night before, and then the next morning, just take 'em with u?

Cause heat changes and destroys the nutrients. Raw eggs are supposed to boost your immune system anyways. And yes, I'm slighty afraid, but not really.

You run the risk of salmonella. If you are otherwise healthy, it willt usually involves a bad case of the runs and it's over in a few days. This will deplete your body of many nutrients.

Additionally, some of the proteins in the egg become more bioavailable upon cooking and in light of this, why go through the misery of eating slimy raw eggs when they are tastier and safer upon cooking?

You can tell an egg is past its fresh date when you crack it open in a bowl.
The yolk and the dense albumen should be high and firm.
If the dense albumen and the liquid albumen look like the same thing...then don't bother eating it.

As for eating raw eggs...do just that...eat them...don't drink them.
The Rocky style...drinking raw eggs...ouch...just ouch.
It is the same when body builders drink those protien shakes.
That kind of protein ingestion is terrible for the GI tract...gas...terrible gas.

Mix them with cereal...or whatever you like...but eat them with a spoon...or drink them....one small mouthful at a time...slowly..and chew them...very important...I guess that goes without saying about food in general..but even more so with protiens...be careful.

You can make them into eggnog...which is delicious...but again...eat them.
I have done it for years with little ill effect.

I don't do this in Korea very much anymore...hard to find a good source consistently enough...really hit and miss.

I agree--you have to eat them. Food, even nutritious but semi-liquid food, needs to be chewed. This is why I always spoon my smoothies.

I've eaten a 20-pack of farm-fresh eggs raw (they were the new hen eggs, called cho-ran 초란, slightly smaller than older hens' eggs) and been totally fine. It took me a couple weeks to get through them. They were never refrigerated.

You can tell if it's bad when you crack it open. I always check by shaking (if it sounds too hollow, it's bad) and when in doubt, the float test (bad ones sort of sit up and REALLY bad ones totally float in water). But cracking it open makes it extremely obvious. A bad egg is all scrambled up inside the egg and usually smells a bit.

Well considering the average Korean doesn't understand that leaving eggs in a 25-30degree C store on a shelf for a month is bad. I personally wouldn't DARE try eating any raw eggs. Especially with the idiotic food handling practices I have seen here.

refrigeration for eggs isn't necessary. america is one of the few countries that does that (apparently.)
