I sampled some the other night. At the Gepik conference no less.
It was surprisingly good. I have heard there are 2 ways to get it:

One buy it at the DMZ

Or get it at the last stop on some metro kine.

The second one is what I am wondering about. Apparently this is the
last metro stop before North Korea.

You can also buy the N.K beer there. Which I hear is excellent as well.

thanks.

I bought a bottle at a Korean grocery store in the U.S. a few months ago. I thought it wasa pretty good, but it's been at least a year that I drank soju. I don't recall ever seeing it sold when I lived in Korea.

It's also like 25% ABV which is what South Korean soju used to be, but they've steadily reduced it over the years to 17-18%...

That country has no business diverting food resources into alcohol production.

They have no business doing a lot of things...making soju is the least of my worries.

Yeah I got it at the last train station before NKorea. It was cheap - 2000 won a bottle - and good. I mean, it just tastes like normal soju, haha. But still a cool thing to have.

... for girls!

Hallasan (Jeju-do Soju) is the probably the best Soju available in the South. About 21% and a surprisingly pleasant after-taste.

Andong soju is a completely different animal from the soju in a green bottle you find at GS25. It's about twice as strong, and you can taste the mold that was used to ferment it. It's probably an acquired taste, but I don't think I can ever acquire enough taste for it to finish the bottle I picked up on my last trip to Andong.

Best soju I've ever had was C1 Premium, a Busan brand.

The stuff at Dorasan is like 10 years old! I was up in the North over the summer and the stuff they served us was like drinking gasoline. It was way too rough. Andong Soju is still the best imo.
