I haven't tried Chinese food in Korea yet, but I really want to! What is your favorite Korean Chinese dish? (Obviously, I don't care about authenticity at all - just yumminess!) I want to go into one, but it might be hard not knowing the names of any dishes.
Also, I'm not a vegetarian, but I'm friends with two of them. Do you think we could find vegetarian options in Chinese restaurants here? Does anybody have a dish to suggest? I eat out with them pretty often and I like my dining companions to enjoy their food as much as me. (I'm a happy piggy.) We've had good luck with the Vietnamese place here in Wonju, but we haven't set foot into any of the Chinese places yet.

yachae bokkum bap = vegetable fried rice
se songi deop bap = rice with stir-fried pine mushrooms
japchae bap = rice with stir-fried vermicelli noodles on top
All the other dishes I can think of, have either meat or seafood in them. Even the above might have tiny bits of pork in them, depending on the restaurant.
Has your friend learned how to say "i'm a vegetarian" in Korean yet?
The simplest way is probably naneun gogi an mogeoyo |

Yeah they have it. They call it "mapa dooboo bap," I always get a chuckle out of saying it because it sounds like baby talk.
For meat dishes, some of the chicken ones are good, like gan poong gi which is like spicy chicken wings, or yu lin gi which is... a different type of spicy chicken wings, lol
They also have sweet and sour pork and shrimp fried rice and stuff like that.
Dong Chun Hong is one of the more upscale Korean-Chinese restaurant chains, you should probably find one of those if you want to try it out. They have some English on the menu.

The column of Korean words on the left, in white, are the different types of dishes, it goes:
Appetizers
Vegetable dishes (some of them do contain meat though)

Sweet n sour pork. I ate it yesterday at a Chinese restaurant here in Suwon. |

Chinese food in Korea isn't Chinese, just Koreanized versions of what is supposed to be Chinese food.
There are Chinatowns around Namguro subway station and in Incheon, but what they serve is Chinese food from China's Shandong province, which I don't care for.
A number of fushion Chinese joints are around and they're mostly hit or miss. The ones I like to go to are Ho Lee Chow in Itaewon and Ding Tai Fung in Myeongdong.

They have mushu pork or shrimp, but you can probably ask them to hold the meat altogether. |

| One of the oldest and best Chinese restaurants in Korea is Peninsula at the Shilla Hotel. But it is damn pricey. |

I don't particularly care for Chinese food in Korea but it isn't disgusting. You're probably disillusioned because of all the cheap joints serving food that tastes mediocre at best. The higher end places aren't too bad. |

Probably. I still think the majority of it is absolutely DISGUSTING, though.
And there isn't any reason why Cantonese/Americanized Chinese food shouldn't be cheaply available in Korea.
I wouldn't even mind Pick Up Stix or Panda Express the situation's so bad out here. |
