First of all, you spelt grammar wrong so many times that it is no small wonder you have (in your opinion), some offensive replies. You claim to be an English teacher, but you spell grammar with an 'e'? You made that typo too many times to use 'being rushed' as an excuse. You obviously aren't aware of the proper spelling. Once fine. Twice...maybe. Each time? Come on!

"Ok Friday I was at my hogwon and asked the owner when my last day was since he wanted me to get my visa in canada before I flew to Korea,"...
"I said I heard that we have at least a few days grace period and she said no, that i was misinformed."...
"So anyways the boss told me I'd have that money taken off my check if I didnt go to immigration all the way in mok dong to get my visa extented... ummm what? why cant he just pay me my last check and let me leave? So I said well Im not paid by the hour im paid..."

Re-read it kristoy. Is your boss/employer a man or a woman? Or are you not certain after 9 months (and one week, roughly)?? He/she/she/he; what? Introduce a third party when you include one. I am really not clear if your boss is 'he' or 'she'.

You have 11 Mondays to go? Why, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!, are you counting 3 sick days (apparently not taken at this point), with almost 3 months left on your contract? Furthermore (and please excuse me for jumping to a definitive conclusion), why would your 'boss' agree to pay you for those 3 months ahead of schedule? If you aren't an idiot your 'boss' most certainly is.

Think before you spew...

1. It is easy to get an extension if you have to work a few days beyond when your visa expires. The last time I did it, it was free.

2. Do you think it's honest to take sick days when the real problem is that you haven't planned ahead to extend your visa for two days? At places I've worked, I am not "owed" sick days. They are there if I need them, and if anyone suspects I (or a close family member) is not actually sick, I need to document it with a doctor's note.

You got sick days!!!!!!!!!!!! Shocked

What I got was, "YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BE SICK" and I was forced to pay the cost of substitites.

It's so easy to get a visa extension, the boss probably should have explained that to you, but miscommunication is the norm in Korea.

Cheers

If you don't want to go to immigration, you can ask your boss to do it for you. You just need to fill out a copy of the visa extension form, and sign a letter giving him/her power of attorney to apply for a visa extension for you. (If you've ever watched AFN, you'll know you should make it a limited power of attorney.)

My school did it all the time. I only had to go to immigration once in two years.

Okay, the thing with the visa extension is this- if you are going to extend it, you get two weeks to do that after it expires, but if you're just planning to leave the country within that time, it's much better to get a renewal.

I don't see why you kicked up such a fuss. You asked when you'd be going home, and he told you. This is a game where you really need to pick your battles carefully. If your boss thinks you're getting something over on him, he may try to get one over on you when it comes to severance. Taking a trip to Mokdong is not that big a deal, especially since you can make an appointment for such things now.

Don't blame people for not understanding your post, when you write incoherently. Even if you wanted to get it out in one shot- which I understand- you could always go back and clean it up to make it more readable.

To the spelling and grammar critics: We've been through this before. It's an informal message board - let it go.

To the OP - friendly suggestion: Short paragraphs. Short sentences. People will want to read your post more, and you'll get more helpful replies.

Congratulations, you average 1.5 spelling mistakes per sentence. Grammar is spelt with an "a" by the way. You're supposed to be an English teacher. Take a pride in your language, as you make a living from it.
I'm tired of seeing "teachers" pitching up here with minimal grasp of English. I suppose they slip through the net because Koreans don't know their "R's" from their "L- bows".
Why should I treat some new guy well? Especially when his english and teaching skills are zero, and he gets paid the same as me, with no experience or whatever.. i don't know you from Adam, and attempting to read your blurted post gave me a headache. If I was your wonjangnim I'd probably try to get away without paying you as well. In fact I laugh sometimes to see the occasional teacher get shafted here, because I know they've played bingo and nothing much else for a year..

I wonder what % of "teachers" gold- digging in Korea are semi- illiterate? Or can you just put it down to being money- hungry adolescents?

Teaching here isnt my living or my degree, of course im sure my degree was much harder to obtain than the degree you have in the history of western cheeses and ins and outs of basket weaving. And I said i was new to this form not new to korea. Minimal graps of english? Im sure I work way harder at work than you do. At least my kids are learning something

I guess if someone asked u why u are in korea your answer is im here for the kids, most of us are here for the money and the ones who dont admit that are usually lying

Please take your money and go home. Go make a living and use your "degree."

Then, with experience, you should have a much better grasp of Korean immigration law. You are giving yourself less and less excuse to not know how things work.

Please, go to Immigration before your visa expires (with one-way plane ticket in hand) and extend your visa. Or don't. Get fined, get deported, it might be for the best.

Fortunately for you, there are mods active on this forum that've already warned me multiple times not to use bad or insulting language or get involved in any flame wars.
Everywhere you go, there you will be. Don't expect it to get any better.
