Originally paid 1,260,000 for this higher end model Samsung LCD. Only about 4 months old. Was asking 1 Million. Now will take 800,000 Won delivered. Wall mount - no base. All English menus (except remote of course). Disregard some of the shipping details below. I have opted not to ship home rather will transport to a friend on Tuesday if I'm not lucky selling.


I have a 40" LCD TV that I may not have time enough to sell here so I'm thinking about shipping it home to Canada? Does anyone have any information on how and how much approximately? I'm guessing it may not be worth it. Any advice appreciated.

For anyone who may be interested in buying, it's a Samsung (LN40C650L1F) 120 HZ, full HD and only about 4 months old. It's a higher end model so I paid 1,260,000 Won and would like to get 1 million for it. From a non-smoking apt. Since other 40" inch TVs sell for less due to basic/fewer features I will consider other reasonable offers and sell to the highest.

We looked into shipping before to the states and it just was not cost effective for us.. (Also the US is 110 not 220)

But if it helps I bought a TV from this poster and he takes great care of his equipment...

moochy - I submit my letter of resignation tomorrow so I'm obligated to stay at least a month, but if they can get rid of me earlier I'm leaving.

For anyone interested in this TV, I opted for the wall mount, not the stand. Also, buyer would have to arrange for pick-up. If it requires a moving service I may consider splitting the cost of the moving fee. I do know the same Samsung team that installed my set stated that it would cost 160,000 Won should I decide to move and have the TV transported and installed to a new location. That's an option I also may consider splitting.

I live in Yongin. The stand is just a small "boomerang" shaped piece of plastic that you could probably purchase at a nominal cost. You probably already know this, but the stand I opted out of should not be confused with large mounting stands, or traditional style stands. Those would cost you more regardless.

From anyone, any other suggestions to ship would still be appreciated.

Look into shipping via boat. I know you can send a ton of stuff for not that much money if you send it that way. it takes like a month, but it's what im gonna do to get my scooter, tv, and some furniture stateside when I take off!

geeze, ya know unfortunately I don't have any other information for you. I just know my friend told me in passing about how he rented part of a shipping container on a boat to send some stuff back to america when he left for significantly cheaper than it would cost normally. I was planning on looking more into it when my contract was coming closer to ending.

I've shipped to the US from Korea and to Korea from the US. If you have a fair amount of stuff -- say 10 boxes and a TV, it might run you around a million won. Weight is irrelevant, it goes by volume and there is a minimum volume, though packing is usually included and insurance can be purchased. The service (about a month transit) is excellent and things came through with trivial damage ($60 -- the cost of the insurance).

As for the post office, I have no knowledge regarding larger packages -- the US Postal Service now sends everything by air and limits size, so it has become very costly and impractical.

You'd need an adapter for the voltage difference, and the cost of a comparable TV in the US would be considerably lower than in Korea. The top-rated (Consumer Reports) Samsung 40" goes for about $900 -- and the #2 ranked Toshiba with better picture quality goes for $700. For $1000 you can get a 52" Sanyo and $1300 will buy a 52" full LED (Sharp Aquos). Buy.com in the US has the most competitive prices with free shipping.

When I left the US, I gave away my 37" LCD to avoid storage and shipping and the need for a transformer.

It would be helpful to most people to know exactly what a stand would add to the cost -- since installing on a wall could cause problems with a landlord.

I'd suggest selling, not shipping, but since prices are coming down steadily and since the value of the won is trending higher (it has increased about 8% in the past four months vs. the US/Can Dollar) I would guess about 30-40% discount would be realistic.

At that price, I might consider it seriously (I am about to buy something), at higher price levels for used and moved equipment, buying something new with delivery included seems more reasonable.
