1. U.S .A. to Gimhae, South Korea

I've been in Gimhae for two months, and my parents want to call me from America. Its been about a year and two months they haven't been able to call me, so I've been using Skype and a phone card. The problem: I can't find Gimhae's code on any Web site. I've asked a friend and co workers (foreign and Korean) and they don't know.

Here's what I'm missing:

011-82-X-xxxx--xxxx

2. Gimhae, South Korea to U.S.A.

Also, I'd like to call them, that is if it's not too much won. Is it super expensive --(my phone is with LG)? I know the code for the US is 001...would I start with that and go into the area code and phone number?

I'd appreciate any help! Thanks!

Calling Korea: assuming your number is like: 01030409566 you would drop the first "0"
011-82-10-3040-9566

Calling FROM Korea to the states:
00700-1-780-304-9566 or
00388-1-xxx-xxx-xxxx

You need a trunk number and those (00700, 00388) are two of the cheapest. IF they don't work when you try to use them, you can always go with 001 or 002 for your trunk like but they are also the two most expensive ones.

I recommend Magic Jack (there are a few other threads that talk about this). With magic jack, you can have a local US phone number, and you can call the us from there, and your parents can call you and only get charged for a local number. It even has voicemail. Buying the Magic Jack is about $40 US with one year of free service, and ever year after that service is about $20 US if you wish to continue with it (service gives unlimited calls to US and Canada). See www.magicjack.com and other threads on here for more info. I actually learned about it through a thread on here and I love it.

I have an extra one as I bought one and then lost it, so bought a new one (which I realized later I could have gotten free) then found the old one. The new one I have is unopened in the box. Let me know if you're interested or have more questions about it.

I agree - Skype is great and free. I use that too. But, in the case of people who don't have skype or don't want to be stuck at the computer while talking (this is the case with my parents) I'd go the Magic Jack route. If you can get the people you want to talk with on Skype, go that way.

There's also this number which I keep in my phone. It allows me to call home with paying only a local rate. I don't know how it works, I think it's just some type of VOIP service.

To use it, dial this number 1566-0044, then once you hear the recording being, just type in the phone number you wish to call. 1-xxx-xxx-xxxx. You will have to wait a few seconds, then you will be connected to home. It's super easy and you only pay like you're calling within
Korea.

Hi b0101 -

I'm living in South Korea right now and I'm interested in buying your magicjack. I wanted to PM you about this, but the forums won't let me b/c I haven't posted enough. Anyway, send me an email at [email protected] if your magicjack is still for sale. How much are you charging?

Thanks,
dedede
