Hey all,
I currently teach at a public elementary school and while I like my school/co-teachers/apartment/students I want to teach older and smaller classes. I know it may not be the smartest idea to leave my school when I have such a good situation but I don't think I'd get anything out of staying there another year plus I'm not to found of my city.
I want to switch to a hagwon and but I'm not sure how to go about finding one. I think I can be a bit more selective since I'm actually in Korea and can do personal interviews and if there is anything korea doesn't lack its hagwon's but aside from hiting up a bunch of recruiters, does anyone have any advice ? |

you live in bucheon right? can i ask why youre not too fond of it? Most people like Bucheon. But all you have to do is contact recruiters. Youre a girl and already in Korea, so thats two good things for you. You should be able to find a hagwon within a month easily |

Well I don't mind it but if I had a choice of location (like I would switching to a hagwon) I would rather be in seoul. Bucheon's nice but the foreigner community is small, cliquey and drama filled and theres not much to do here besides hang out at with them or go to seoul and I'd rather cut down the commute on the last one.
Thats not to say that I don't enjoy living here and I've made really good friends who are also planning on staying another year as well. I'm also looking at switching to a public middle school or high school and if thats the case I would rather stay in bucheon. Just trying to keep my options open but i think switching to public might be difficult because my contract started at the very end of March and most schools begin at the end of Feb. |

Since you are in Korea you do have the advantage of actually going and taking a look before you jump from the pan into the fire.
As to the how-to, do you have friends or connections in different hagwans? Talk to them. Find out whose hagwan is looking (or will be looking) for a teacher when your contract ends. They all know when their co-workers are heading home or heading for a new job. You can also gauge whether or not you would want to work at their school.
If not, then you will again, need to talk to a bucket full of recruiters. Jobs are tighter this year so it will be harder than previously but still very do-able.
