I would have thought the worsening korean economy would have far more impact on shrinking class sizes.

Its pretty much bottomed out now. If anything it will improve in the next year given China and Japans improved economic outlooks and growth rates.

Apparently the new legislation comes in next month (April). So be prepared. My hagwon is seeing a small trickle/ die off in student numbers, perhaps due to this.
But the director has mentioned this in a meeting and is quite worried about the public schools stealing his students...
I guess time will tell- I'm in an averagely well off neighborhood, I suppose I'm anticipating about a 20-30% loss of students for our hagwon...but who knows, I could be out of my job in a couple of months.
Anyone else experiencing a change in student numbers yet?

I dont know. It seems like the number of students in my school has increased a lot. I would estimate that we got an additional 30 students and almost none have left. But my director is going to a public rally against the legislation and a whole bunch of other owners will be there too.

There was a hogwan strike today in my province (Kyeongsamnando)...most hogwan directors went to Changwan to demonstrate. haven't seen anything about this in the news yet..but was a nice day off for us!

My school hasn't seen a drop in numbers yet...but we have a lot of middle school students and I think we could be hit really hard next month.

My director is walking round with that mopey worried face. At least he could've gone and demonstrated. But no, he prefers to sit around reading the paper, same as every day...
