What did you want to be when you grew up?
For me, a pilot.
That dream was dashed when my doctor told me at age 12 that my eyes weren't good enough to fly. That isn't true these days. That one conversation really changed me. I sometimes wished the doc had shut his trap and just treated my fever. |

Pretty much exactly the same as me...
I always thought my eyes were good - I knew they were better than most. But clearly not. I have astigmatism in my left eye which was destined to decay at a fast rate. These days I can't even read this screen with my left eye alone. Right eye is fine, though. Lousy evolution. |

I wanted to be Indiana Jones....then an astronaut...then a zoologist...then a doctor....then a French professor...and so on. I ended up not caring what I'd be, as long as I get to travel. |

When I was 6 I wanted to be a "spokesmodel" (thanks Starsearch.)
When I was 8 or so I decided to be a fashion designer.
Finally when I was 12 I decided to be a writer/journalist. That's more of less what I schooled for (more towards the beginning, less at the end).
Now at 27, I'm thinking maybe a gourmet cheese maker? |

I always wanted to be a teacher , now I hate teaching and haven't done it for 3 years.
Now, I'd love to open a cake shop or something. |

I wanted to be Miss America but my mom steered me far away from that. Then I wanted to be a fashion designer. Most of my clothes were hand-me downs. I took art classes and I learned to sew a little bit, but grew discouraged when I changed schools and lacked guidance. Then I really didn't know what I wanted to be. I've tried a lot of different things and I've found that what I want to be often changes. In fact, the question has even changed. I now ask "who does God want me to be?" Right now, he wants me here in Korea teaching English, making deeper commitments to my community and perhaps preparing for a counseling ministry. My major in college was psychology, so maybe I had a clue back then but I'm easily sidetracked. |

I wanted to be a vet or zoologist up until we had to put down my dog. Then I also found out that I was deeply interested in the higher sciences.
Now I'm jumping inbetween animator or teacher... or a person who works on children's television shows. |

I wanted to be a famous composer.
I still do.
During my free time, I post my compositions on the Internet. |

Always wanted to become a physician but being in the most competitive country on the planet for medical school (Canada) I had to eventually give up that dream after several years of trying very hard. I even got into med school abroad but being born a Canadian I couldn't secure any loan from any bank to attend. Suffice it to say it has been a slow and painful process of giving up my childhood dream. My parents are disappointed in me as well and I see it in their faces when I see them.
Soon, I'll be graduating from pharmacy school and doing my internship. I'll be making 90k and up after that. I'm not sure if I can be a pharmacist for the rest of my adult life, it's not much different from being a robot on an assembly line or doing time in jail. Most likely I'll be a business owner in the future. I guess my dream now is building a successful business and retiring. Who knows what will happen. |

I always thought it would be like being a librarian. |
