I love Google streetview, use it all the time. Was annoyed that Korea wasn't on there, till a K-friend sent me their version, Daum.

The maps aren't as good, but the street view is amazing- To use it follow the link above.

There are 4 tabs on the upper-right of the map, click on the one just right of the tab which is blue to turn streetview on, a little camera icon will appear on the map. Drag him to wherever you want to look at.


Not only are the images higher resolution, but they go down pavement areas, subway and train stations, right around important places like statues and even at the top of Mt Jeju.


Google has some catching up to do, with Daum I can look at the subway stations I'll be using in advance.

Google have no catching up to do whatsoever. They have the world covered.

Daum has Korea covered.

Google don't have korea covered due to the little argument the two had, and now they won't cooperate with each other.

Basically Google were found collecting private information via wireless 'by mistake' when creating their street views and Korea was having none of it.

Oh, I know Google have done a whole lot more area but getting the subway and train stations in major cities mapped would be such a great move, the same with some other public buildings.

if you scroll around the walkway one you can see the shadow. It's a guy with a head mounted camera. Yes, google so far has nothing on that.

Daum maps probably aren't as good as Google if you can't read any Korean, but if you can I think Daum (and Naver also) are much better for Korean map coverage.

Naver has recently added the street view feature as well and their pictures for that are often even more up-to-date than Daum. Naver also has the panoramic view feature for many urban areas. On the other hand, I find Daum easier for getting bus information. Just zoom in to any bus stop, click on the bus stop icon and a box of all the buses stopping there appears. A further click on the bus number gets you detailed timetable and route information.

Personally, I'd say google maps DOES have some catching up to do. I often find they are fairly slow to update when new roads etc. are opened. Naver and Daum are much faster on that score. And it's not just a Korean only issue - I also find google maps, their many other good points notwithstanding, a little slow to update new developments in other parts of the world where I've used them (the UK and other parts of Europe).

Perhaps they're more on the ball in North America, I wouldn't know as I've no reason to use their maps for that part of the world.

I showed my home where I grew up and the stuff around it to my class this year on Google. The loved it.

They will also love this, so it'll be good to fill 20+ mins of a class sometime, thanks again.

BTW I looked at our present home, and I don't recognise the entire playpark outside as it's changed a little. These pictures must be a least 2 years old.

Unfortunately, not all of Korea has been covered yet, but it's still a great tool. My students loved seeing my hometown on Google Maps, and Koreatown in Toronto. I think I'll likely use the Daum maps in a lesson even though our town isn't on there yet. Cheers, thanks for the link.

Yes, I discovered Daum a few months ago. It's excellent once you know what you're doing.

Maybe it's just because I'm connecting from outside of Korea but both Daum and Naver both load *very* Slowly for me, Naver= 40 seconds per page, Daum= 15 seconds.
So I was zooming out from Seoul, and sometimes the map updates but the blue lines to indicate streetview locations remained. I actually laughed out loud when I saw streetview lines across North Korea...

Yes, daum most definitely loads very slowly here in the States.
