My afterschool class and I have been following this piece of news over the past several weeks. We discussed what we'd do if we were down there - what we'd wish we had with us etc etc.
(If you're interested) ... Here is a live stream of the rescue currently going on. The rescue 'pod' has just gone down now with a medic in and the first miner will be up soon.

Welcome back to the surface guys!

I'm glad to know that those guys are finally getting out. I remember when they were saying it wouldn't be until December that they would be getting out. |

We've just seen the medic arrive safely into the cave and was welcomed with many a hug from the miners. First miner is shortly to be loaded into the capsule. My students are watching excitedly. |

Yay! So happy for the miners and their families and hoping the rest of the rescue continues as smoothly. Also feeling proud of my (1st) adopted country. Chi Chi Chi Le Le Le!
ETA: Second medic going down. That has got to be an extremely surreal experience. |

Only took 69 days....
I am happy for them though. Hopefully they will get some decent compensation. Mining is less than glamorous without getting trapped... |

Rumor has it that some have been offered $400,000 USD for the first few interviews. Supposedly the miners agreed that any money made will be split evenly among them. Hopefully they make enough to spend the rest of their lives in comfort. |
