can anyone recommend any easy(ish) songs that kindy kids could learn for a show around xmas time?
they're 6 years old and pretty good but are having trouble with all the songs they've been given because of the speed. for example - summer nights from grease.
anyone had to teach real songs before? they can't be too miserable or christmas songs.
cheers |

thanks for the sarcasm.
yes, i understand how google works but the purpose of asking on an esl website is that other people may be able to share their experiences.
googling 'kindy songs' on youtube or wherever brings up kiddie songs, not real pop songs (for the most part).
here goes again: could anyone share any experiences that they've had with trying to teach pop songs to 6 year olds? over the rainbow, love is all around me, the beatles, etc, etc. |

Sing by The Carpenters. There's also a Sesame Street version of it and it's fairly easy for the kids to learn. It's also good for teaching them how to pronounce the "L" sound. You may want to record their first efforts to sing the Chorus to play back for them so that they can clearly hear the difference between la-la-la-la-la-la and ra-ra-ra-ra-ra-ra.
Other songs that are good are themes from Disney movies like Aladdin's "Whole New World" and some of The Beatles songs that have simple lyrics like "All you need is Love" |

I didn't say kindy songs, I said kids songs.
Skip the old pop songs. To your kids they are just noise. Keep it visual and active and they will respond well, learn quickly and have no problems with singing it.
Then there are the theme songs from all the kids TV shows.
Kids pick them up easily.
Keep your stuff age appropriate and it will be easy for them to pick up and learn as a sing-a-long.
There are lots of songs on Sesame street that are suitable (sesame street on youtube.)
Elmo and Katy Perry do "Hot N cold"

campfire songs work well.-
I love the mountains.

Can be as simple as you want or as complex as the discovery channel adverts.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5BxymuiAxQ
"Do your ears hang low", "the bear went over the mountain", etc.
or
anything by "Sharon, Lois and Bram" - the Elephant show.
The "elephant song" works well and there are lots of props and actions you can add if you are creative"

Add actions to the songs and the parents will eat it up.

"Must be Santa" I did this song with my preschool kids a few years back. Really good for kids since its a call and repeat sort of song.
Make up a poster board with pictures to help the kids. Good luck.

Don't you think it's a bit creepy getting 6 year olds to sing about a teenage sex encounter?
Why not just go with kids' songs instead of "real" songs, as you call them? |

i know that summer nights is not a perfect song for teaching 6 years olds, but all my original choices were rejected by the kids or they'd done them last year. (you are my sunshine, all you need is love etc)
unfortunately my co-teacher thinks this is a great choice for a song and at the moment i'm stuck with it.
i can't go for kids songs. they must be 'real' songs. that's what their mummies want for the show and that's what i have to give them. |

Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World?
Nice and simple, easy enough tempo and plenty cheerful. |

Because kindergartners have such wonderful voices, the parents will appreciate the quality. |
