I'd say I'm okay but I've been heading down the deep end of the audiophille route pretty fast. Got a cowon Iaudio 9. play 256-320 kbps songs. And a pair of Westone's UM2's. I'm thinking of upgrading to triple driver UM3x.
IMO Westone is the best if your looking for a rich, balanced sound. Vocals give you the "Wow" feelings. If your a bass head. Try the etymonics ER IEMS or Vmoda IEMs.
Combine them with the Comply tips and you've got the best and most comfortable seal. Only problem with these tips. They don't last long, you've got to switch them out every month.
I'd be willing to go custom but, you've got to get refitted every couple years. Your ear canal shape isn't static.
By the way for people interested, Shure sells a Microphone piece for 100 bucks. Its a intermediary device between your IEMs and your player. Push a button and it'll turn on the microphone so you don't have to take your ear pieces out to have a conversation. Damn handy. |

| The best bang for your buck, especially if you don't want IEMs or earbuds, are Koss' KSC75. 17'000 won on Gmarket, they sound better than my 120'000 won Philips SHE 9850s, which aren't half bad themselves. They're not built the best though, one side shorted out not too long after I bought them. Though I wasn't particularly careful since my 9850s were on the way. |

| For those looking for a decent headphone amp, you might want to look into the Asgard or Valhalla by Schiit. I've read a few reviews about both of them and they are apparently pretty good. The Asgard is a solid state amp ($249) while the Valhalla is a tube amp ($349). |

I highly recommend the Carat-HD1V, the USB Audio DAC. Kills two birds with one stone, with a DAC and headphone option, silly cheap considering the quality. It's a Korean product, so cheap. I know it used to cost well over $200 in Europe and the USA. A real gem.

With regards to headphones it's probably worth your while visiting headphoneshop in Seoul if you live there. You can demo many headphones at your leisure. I don't know if you want closed or open for example.
I chose the Kenwood KH-K1000 due to wanting allrounders myself! They are closed which suits me as the street outside my apartment is noisy. Good for all kinds of music, movies, and spatial sounding enough to be a benefit for gaming. I obught them from Japan direct. Easy transaction as I just had to send money to a korean based bank account. Had to pay extra duty on arrival though.

Definitely a Quadrophenia fan.....film and original album, which I first heard at 14 years old which made me a become a mod and single-handedly made me the rock music fan I am today!
