Nice link to The j ramen skit.

I must admit I'm a ramen / ramyeun fan.

The Japanese do do it a million times better though we must admit. Lucky there are some shinuku / hakoya ramyeon joints around, though few and far between...

As for Korean Ramyeon one of my faveorite hangover cures or if you're just really tired before work is the KINCHI RAMYEON and DOUBLE ESSPRESSO breakfast!

Go to your local buytheway and stand in line with the midddle school kids.

Have a pot of kimchi ramyeon and drain every last drop of the soup when the noodes are finished, yes drink it right down from the bowl like a drink. Then slam back a double esspresso and head in to work. The combo of that much chilli and caffeine will put a real spring in your step!

I once was late for work and after this breakfast I jumped the width of the Han river from the Samgakchi side into Yeoido to make iot to my school the other side on time!

I never told anyone about this and even to this day it seems as though it were just a daydream....

Perhaps the spring in your step is the springing to the nearest hwajangshil.

I must admit the Ramyeon Espresso breakkie is relagated for emergencies these days.

After about ten of them your bowels are irreperably changed forever.

I eat Ramien but boil onions and other veggies, cook the noodles and dump the water out. Then put in tuna, cheese and some of the flavoring. I don't think it's so horrible like that. But if you eat the instant kind a lot, it probably isn't good!

I don't get to eat ramen very often on account of the low nutrition and high calories, but when I do my husband always adds meat, green onions, mushrooms, sometimes sprouts, egg, and a slice of cheese.

nom nom nom.

As for the diarrhea, what do you think of this theory:

The broth from the noodles contains so much salt that is above your body's own salinity levels.

If you drink it, as it sits in your stomach and intestines in contact with the semipermeable membranes, osmosis will cause water to move into the stomach/intestines from the outside (from the less saline side of the membrane to the more saline side).

The salinity hinders the reabsorbtion of the water even after equilibrium is achieved, so it all passes fairly quickly through the intestines, resulting in diarrhea.

A solution might be to not use the whole flavoring packet.

Ramen is made with vast quantities of cheap palm oil from south east asia. It's not just bad for people, it's bad for the environment, as swathes of pristine jungle are being cut down in plases such as Indonesia, Papau New Guinea and Thailand to grow the crud.

Because, you know, no one is cutting down that jungle for the lumber. Nope, not because of that but strictly for cheap cooking. Stop consuming palm oil and the forests are saved!

I was in Busan last weekend and went to a Ramyeon restaurant called I think 'Hakoya Ramen.'

Best noodles, broth and ingredients I've ever had. They stir fry the bean sprouts so they lend the meat broth a really unique flavor.

Ramen is obviously unhealthy, but I wonder if it isn't so bad for Koreans since they would eat Banchan with their ramen. Kimchi, Bean sprouts, cucumber, etc... would at least add some nutritional element to eating ramen.

Kimchi with ramen is just adding salt to salt.
