Does anyone know what the rule is with Canadians and the CRC. Do we need to get them through the RCMP. There are so many conflicting views with people saying we do need them and others saying we don't since the ones through the local police use a national database. I will be renewing February and am wondering if I should go ahead and order since it can take up to 4 months.
Also, for anyone who has ordered theres I have a question about the fingerprinting. My understanding is that the fingerprints should be done on a form provided by the local Korean police. It's not like with the FBI checks where they are given a special form to use. |

| You can get the form at the Canadian Embassay. At the Embassy they will point out on a map where to get your fingerprints taken. Then you will need to send it to The Mounties. When it returns you will need to get it notorised at the Canadian Embassy. |

Thanks for the info. I don't live in Seoul and don't want to take time from work to travel there to the Canadian embassy. According to the RCMP website I should be able to do them on a form from the local police station as long as it has the name of the location etc. I just wondered if anyone had done it this way. As for the notarization I will be back in Canda for a very short visit prior to renewing my visa so I will go to the Korean consulate in Toronto and get it done then. I will be home too close to my renewal time to do my RCMP check then though.
If necessary I will take an afternoon and travel to Seoul for the fingerprinting. |

I did it this way, I went to a local police station in Near Sindaebang station, used their local fingerprint forms and they supplied translations for the form, remarkably nice people. Though I have no idea if this is going to work, I guess I'll find out in a couple of months when either I get my CRC or have my application returned. |

| Thank you, that's what I was worried about because the info on the form would not be in English and whether it would be accepted. I am in Daejeon and plan to visit the police station next week. I have a Korean friend that will help me translate the form so I will try that and hope for the best. |

| I'm wondering the same question Op. I've already gotten my CRC notarized here by the Canadian Embassy, but it was two years ago. I haven't left Korea since. But my issue is whether it's still good. Fingerprints were NOT given, but I did get a vulnerable sector check and it was run through the national database. |

Unfortunately the national database doesn't not contain all the information from each provincial database (any local police check that you have done will specify that it may not have all information contained at the provincial level) Supposedly the RCMP fingerprint check includes all this information, which would explain why it takes so long to do the check. Of course the real question is, "Why do the provincial courts not send everything to be included in the national database?" Such a pain in the... |

If you return to Canada in February for a visit, you can apply and receive your CRC certificate in a matter of a few hours or a couple of days provided you have no criminal record. |

I am in the same situation. I did the provencial level check a year ago before I came but it was't with the RCMP. Despite all the confusion over whether we need it, I am just going to do it and that way I am safe. It's not that expensive just more a pain in the butt with th fingerprinting etc.
I assumed that if I did it in Canada it would still take up to 6 weeks, like the provencial police checks, but I will look into doing it while I am at home. |

In Canada it would take 72 hours plus time for mailing. Yes, you read that right. It's all about the fingerprints. Paper submissions take a lot longer because they need to be done manually. In Canada they take your fingerprints electronically which speeds up the process to light speed. |
